M235i 8AT - switching from manual to automatic on own

Yesterday night I was pulling out of a parking lot, flicked the switch up to Sport mode. I seem to recall also putting the shifter in the left position (transmission in manual mode).

After a few shifts to 2nd and 1st to hear the burbles, I was going pretty slow to approach a speed bump. When I shifted with the paddles I noticed the car was back in automatic mode again. I wonder how this could have happened?

Never had that happen unless I leave the shifter in D, instead of S.

Probably moved shifter back to D. Never had it with mine. Stays in M (Manual) if the shifter's in sport and you shift at least once.
