4 Ohm & 2 Ohm Speakers - 1 Amp

Hi All,

Just after some advice before I purchase some new equipment.

I was going down the route of installing a full Audison Voce set up which comprised of 4 x 6.5" woofers, 2 x 3" mids and 2 1" x Tweeters in my e93.

However, to try and save on some costs, I'm thinking of utilising my Focal ES100K - ELITE K2 Power Series 4" component speakers and getting two sets of the Focal ES 165 KX2 6.5" woofers,

Seeing that the ES100's are 4 Ohm and the ES165's are 2 Ohm. Would i have an issue running this off a single amp, such as the alpine pdx v9 or would i need to wire the ES165's in series to lower the Ohm's from 2 to 4.

And by doing this would i damage the speakers ?

Thanks all.

You can expect that the 2 ohm speakers will be 3db louder on the same rated amp channels

Keep your 4". Perfect for e90

Dont use a 6.5. Get a proper 8 for under the seat

Thanks for the feedback, if the 6.5 are wired in series, then they would be 4 ohm correct ?, therefore would they still be 3db louder.

I've got 8" installed already, whilst the sound OK, having 2 6.5 installed in the doors should sound better right, given the location.

So you are going to cut up your doors?

You might want to consider Jehnert doorboards.

See there website.

The Jehnerts are good speaker also.

There 8 inch underseats are audiophile quality.
Xe 200's

lol !! on this occasion no cutting, I've made some door boards, which are similar to the Jennets board boards.

hence the need to want to use two 6.5"

Thats actually not correct. The 6.5 have a larger issue with beaming off axis which will give you uneven frequency response.

The only time ive known the real pros to install 6.5s is when the are doing 4 of them in each side (jehnert dpor panel) on lieu of the 8

Edit. Just read your lower post. I still think thats overkill but have fun!
8/4/tweeter and you are done

I've also got some A frame pillars for the tweeters and tweeter pods for the mids, that i could possibly install.

Looks pretty good you can buy the BMW tweeter pods for about 35 US
a side.

Thanks Ctuna,

I've currently got the tweeter pods in place which are housing the 1" focal tweeter.

However the initial plan is to replace these with a custom pod which would house a 3" mid.

The tweeters would then be moved into the A frame pillars.

Regards
