Shell V Power or just quiet roads?

Not sure if it's because the roads are quiet or because I filled up with Shell V Power at the weekend but mpg was up last night on my commute home - all town driving. It did seem things were going my way - even Simon Mayo was back!
Normally get 45 -55mpg. Last night was 67.

6 mile each way town driving, slow-speed commute ?

That's one quick way to wreck a DPF, I suppose.

Probably just your right foot thinking "damn, I've just paid an extra 8p a litre.....better make this stuff last!!!"

On a serious note, I log every fill on an app, and I do think there is a marginal improvement when using V power diesel. Not enough to really stand out though, so it's more a hunch.

My mpg is also up, was 37 now 41, but I put that down to lack of traffic during school holidays.

I'm sure I'll be fine. Thanks for worrying though.

I definitely think my 335d is more economical when I use the premium diesel over the standard stuff and it runs and sounds better too

If there was a marginal improvement improvement in mpg, is it totally offset by the extra paid per litre or are you in a net loss situation?

I use general supermarket diesal in beemer. In my proper sports car i use shell v power not for to achieve better economy but to gain better power output. I don't mind paying extra if I get a bit more poke but never thought to pay to get better fuel economy.

I don't notice any noticeable difference in mpg between normal shell and v power diesel. I use v power for the extra cleaning additives.

What is the difference, you want the most out of your fuel whether its fuel consumption or performance.

Its either Shell or Tesco for me. Every now and then I put V power in the BM and the rest of the time its Tesco fuel.

Standard diesel has more than high enough cetane rating so it would not be for that reason.

If you hadn't used super diesel or separate cleaning additives in a while then it could be due to the fuel system being cleaned, but it would take most of the tank before the difference would start to show.

I spoke with someone in the fuel industry recently and he advised that super diesel is only necessary every 3 or 4 tankfuls to keep the the fuel system optimally clean.

The difference is that when I want performance and put my for down, fuel economy is the last thing on my mind

That's useful to know. I add some redex once every month to keep the injectors nice and clean.

Easier and probably cheaper to put a tank of v power in, it has the same stuff in it.

This is good to know. It's the first time I've used it and I put it in purely for the cleaning benefits after reading about it on this forum. An extra 4 quid a fill every so often isn't going to break the bank either so well worth it in my opinion.
My OP about the MPG difference was a bit tongue in cheek. I really just wanted to show off that I'd got 67mpg with town driving!

No the redex was cheaper than paying 10p litre, especially I bought it discounted

Ah ok, i thought it was about £10 a bottle. Still a bit of a faff though especially with the safety flap inside the filler.

Something stupid like 4 quid reduced from asda. Treats two tanks. Sorted
