Shell V Power or just quiet roads?
Not sure if it's because the roads are quiet or because I filled up with Shell V Power at the weekend but mpg was up last night on my commute home - all town driving. It did seem things were going my way - even Simon Mayo was back!
Normally get 45 -55mpg. Last night was 67. |

Probably just your right foot thinking "damn, I've just paid an extra 8p a litre.....better make this stuff last!!!"
On a serious note, I log every fill on an app, and I do think there is a marginal improvement when using V power diesel. Not enough to really stand out though, so it's more a hunch. |

My mpg is also up, was 37 now 41, but I put that down to lack of traffic during school holidays.

If there was a marginal improvement improvement in mpg, is it totally offset by the extra paid per litre or are you in a net loss situation?
I use general supermarket diesal in beemer. In my proper sports car i use shell v power not for to achieve better economy but to gain better power output. I don't mind paying extra if I get a bit more poke but never thought to pay to get better fuel economy. |

Its either Shell or Tesco for me. Every now and then I put V power in the BM and the rest of the time its Tesco fuel. |

Standard diesel has more than high enough cetane rating so it would not be for that reason.
If you hadn't used super diesel or separate cleaning additives in a while then it could be due to the fuel system being cleaned, but it would take most of the tank before the difference would start to show. I spoke with someone in the fuel industry recently and he advised that super diesel is only necessary every 3 or 4 tankfuls to keep the the fuel system optimally clean. |

My OP about the MPG difference was a bit tongue in cheek. I really just wanted to show off that I'd got 67mpg with town driving! |

Ah ok, i thought it was about £10 a bottle. Still a bit of a faff though especially with the safety flap inside the filler.
