Dunlop SP Sport Maxx vs. Goodyear F1 GS-D3

Both these tires are very highly rated. The Dunlop recently took the top spot away from the Goodyear in the Survey section of Tire Rack. I wanted to know which one the folks in this forum prefer.

I bought the F1's for my 330i and they're a great tire. I talked with the mgr. of the local Goodyear shop by my house before I bought them and he recommended the F1's over the Dunlop's. He sells both and thinks the F1's are a much better buy.

That's good to hear. I'm thinking of replacing the RFT's this spring with something a bit lighter and a bit more agressive. Looks like the F1's have it! Thanks

I was set on the F1's for awhile now. However, I see the Dunlops have slightly better ride comfort, noise comfort and treadwear ratings. But then again, carlito is right.... If these ratings are by consumer, the F1's have 100 times more users than the Dunlops voting it to be one of the top which is a consideration as well. I am still torn between the F1's and the sportmax.
Has anyone personally had both tires?

I have to ask... have you found a solution in the case you get a flat tire and you are on non-RFTs? I'd like to change my tyres, but this question hunts me

Use the slime kit from Continental. It's $75 from tirerack.com(http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-1852000-10374977)

Here my experience on the e46. I had OEM Contisport 205/55VR16 and when it came time to change I opted for the Sport MAXX based on the tirerack tests and tables.
The resulting feeling was as follows:

* comfort: SM better (especially over speed brakers and little potholes);
* noise: SM better;
* handling (both dry and wet): worse (SportMaxx seemed to have a bit of lag time before reacting);
* stability: great in both;

I think that if I had to go back I would re-buy ContiSport.

The lesson I learned in the end was, regardless of the Tire rack test tables etc. the overall feeling from the mix car/tires is always very personal!

I had Dunlop's on my A4 and they were awesome tires. I have Goodyear F1's on my Lightning and IMO they suck. I have had 2 blowouts and 3 flats. I know the flats are not Goodyears fault but my beef is they cannot be patched. Every tire shop "claimed" they can do it and guarantee there patch wont come off.. they were all wrong! Every patch came off.

Unfortuantely for me.. with the tire size Goodyear and Nitto's are my only reasonable choice.. I will take Goodyears over Nittos any day.
