Question Diesel Fuel Cleaner Good / Bad?

To some that very sentence would make then sick

Does anyone use the additive you put in your fuel tank when you fill up?

I've used it before on older petrol cars but never a diesel and nothing newer than the 2013 320D i have now

What are peoples thoughts on the additive and using it?

Yep I use it - not sure if it actually does any good but I guess for me I feel better doing it

Or just use some premium fuel like Shell VPower etc

I don't use it - but I ONLY fill up with Shell V-Power diesel, which is reckoned to have the cleaning additives already in it.

A few weeks ago my wife filled the car up, and I noticed it seemed a lot louder and more coarse on idle / low revs. When I asked her, yes, she'd filled it up with 'normal' diesel. A couple of tanks of premium, and it's back to being a lot quieter.

I used Millers on an older tdv6 and swore by it, to sum its snake oil, to others it works - Frankly you pays your money and takes your choices, ill unlikely use it on the 335 but ill aim to fill up at shell and ill be changing the oil every 10k.

I added a tank of BP Ultimate diesel once and the only difference I noticed was the 26p a litre extra it cost me.

Every mile I drove I was annoyed how much money I had wasted.

Saying that I would consider adding a cleaner when the car had a few more miles on it.

I don't honestly think fuels are so unrefined in the UK that a cleaner is as vital as some other countries

A few of us have used Archoil 6400D injector/fuel cleaner admittedly on 330d's did seem to make a perceived difference but not sure really.

Watsey did an interesting exercise and took his DPF apart having used this cleaner and run it on Ultimate or similar & apart from some soot it seemed clean!

Give it a go can't do any harm as long as you follow the distructions !

I've used Forte Advanced Diesel Formula treatment on VAG diesels in the past and never had any problems. Subjective, I know, but they did seem to run more smoothly as a result. It's not available over the counter, but Amazon/eBay have it.

Correct

Archoil once or twice a year. BP Ultimate plus Millers every tank. EGR looked pretty clean.

There are many variables in terms of fuel, driving style, roads and speeds driven, etc, and whether the car will be a keeper.

The combination I use seems to work, so that's what I've stuck with for the past 20 months or so. Costs a bit more than the cheapest option, but supermarket special makes the engine run really rough. No thanks.

Archoil 6400d or BG244 which you can get from the Power Enhancer website.

With both products add to a near empty tank prior to filling up. The car will feel instantly more powerful due to the very high cetane with the cleaner. Unfortunately you now need to make the tank as long as possible so that it can dissolve all the build up, so to don't be tempted to give it a spanking. When you get to 1/4 tank refill and drive as normal.

I've had great results with both products but now use just Archoil 6400-d as I can buy it in 5ltr containers which works out cheaper per application.

Watsey, I use the Archoil annually too but just Tesco finest diesel. No rough running and negligible difference in mpg.
I've ran the premium fuel for a few tanks and only real difference was the cost

I've used Millers ecomax cetane booster for the last 30k miles, a few extra mpg but the biggest benefit is the reduced diesel clatter

Cheers

i used it on a regular basis when i had my 425d Msport but that was mainly because my job changed in 2015 & i worked from home more & the car wasn't the same when i used it at weekends. Dealer said to take it on M-way runs to Chester on cruise-control at 55mph(?) & it would sort the dpf out. Couldn't be doing that every week so i just put Forte dpf cleaner in it. Never had a problem & the car ran fine. Obviously have the 340i now so it's Shell v-power only

Yes, and BMW sells own brand fuel additives, and premium fuels have additives...

Another millers user here, used it religiously on my 2 330ds.

Don't tend to bother on the missus tractor 2.0d vag unit now it's our only diesel.

Just a quick add here guys when i have looked around the net

Not sure if anyone else has seen this but BMW do there own additives for fuel?

http://www.baronsgroup.co.uk/bmw/bmw-fuel-additive

So there must be something in it if BMW have there own to use in their Petrol and Diesel engines!

Been using this on mine. I have a tuning box. Was getting a tiny bit of soot out the tail pipes. Clean as a whistle since using the additive. It works out much cheaper than running V=Power.
