New Car pick up - Fuming!!!!

Just had a call to say I can't collect my brand new car today as it's been scratched and the door needs repainting.

I am so :mad0 260:

Thoughts??

Reject, compensation?

Just going to see the damage...........I bet it's their "detailer."

That's massively annoying, you have my symapthies. I'd be looking at murder.

Seriously, a rejection is a big inconvenience as you're be waiting again so I'd be wanting some compensation as a minimum. If I was planning to keep car long term then I wouldn't want one that had been resprayed before I even got in it.

I would refuse unless it's a full respray , just a door will never match 100%

Are you kidding??? It's perfectly possible to respray a panel and get a 100% match but you're advocating - on a brand-new car - removal of all glass, rubbers and trim to do a full respray over sealed paint? I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Personally I would reject and ask for a replacement until new car arrives

I am very precious about cars and would not accept a new car that I knew had been repaired no matter how minor

This. That's what I would ask for at least.

A lot depends on what colour the car is. Black or White will match easily. Grey needs blending into the other panels to be non noticeable. Red is a bastard - as is Estoril Blue.

The OP has ordered Snapper Rocks so no idea how that would come out.

Didn't someone on here have a similar issue last year when their detailer spotted damage that had been repaired?

As hads been said, rejecting the car is a ball ache having to re-order etc again.

I would suggest that, as you have not signed for receipt yet, inspecting the work when it has been done and making a decision based on that - with a shed load of freebies to soften the blow.

Either way, I feel for you OP - I would be devastated.

Rukka

Not unusual for cars to suffer minor damage in transit so at least you should be thankful they updated you honestly...

Gutted! I have had cars with both poor repairs which I can spot a mile off and great repairs.

I would agree to get it repaired to BMW standards - but on the condition that you have the right to reject the car if you aren't 100% happy.

A repair you can notice will drive you mad (if you are anything like me anyway).

I would have a look at it before the repair also. It might be something a good detailer can sort if it isn't terrible,

You will also be surprised at how many cars have been sprayed in part prior to the first owner getting what they think is a factory finish car.

Friend of mine has a body shop and regularly used to respray bonnets, roof, boots and parts on Citroen's and others prior to customer collection. Something to do with transit and storage at docks that caused damage. Also resprayed door & wing on a range rover before customer collection as someone had been careless.

If the work is done correctly with the right materials and attention to care you will never know, except of course that the resprayed section may actually be better than the factory finish. Modern cars are atrocious for orange peel finish.

Still sorry to hear this has happened the the OP

As stated,a perfect colour match is probable with a skilled body shop but not always attained.
I wouldn't reject the car at this stage, but examine it very closely and get it moved around so you inspect it from all angles and in different lights and shades.
As long as the repair is undetectable it matters not....otherwise,sadly you will have a battle to fight

Matching paint is harder when it's been exposed to the elements but brand-new paint shouldn't be hard. As Alscoob said, dozens of cars get transit damage fixed without the owner even being told.

This would be my biggest worry, I doubt they could get it to look as rough as the rest of the car, maybe if they machine polished the whole car to get a perfect finish all over it would be okay

Right been to see the car. it has a 4" scratch just below the body line on the passenger door. It's through the lacquer and could be be polished out for sure.

Looks to me like they have caught it with the pressure washer lance.

I have not accepted the car but agreed to have it repaired. Once done I will inspect it and decide if to accept or reject the car. Should be ready Tuesday night.

They have given me a new 520d X-Drive until its ready on Tuesday.

Just feel gutted......................

I have told them NOT to wash the car at all!

I have always been told that it will never match 100% , so this is what I been told from past experience from bodyshops but might be wrong.
Still I would refuse the car . And if this happens when my 440i arrives it will be refused won't even give them a chance to offer to fix it simple

Fair enough but if it's a minor scratch that affects the lacquer only you're biting your nose off if you reject and then wait another 12 weeks when you could have a proper repair and some freebies. Had it not been on collection day it would have been polished out and nobody would be any the wiser. If you ever watch how the drivers unload at Thorne it happens all the time.

Mate it's an awful situation to be in and no matter how good the repair the emotional and physical damage is done.

Is the car a finance job so will go back or are you planning on owning it. That would make a bit of a difference.

Either way they have ruined what should be a great day.

The ball is in your court so you can really push for an outcome that suits you.

Sleep on it but remember it's been damaged no matter how good the repair.

Car is on a PCP. Not signed any paperwork yet at all.

The scratch is deeper than the lacquer.

I would be warry, as any repray will be superior to the factory finish, assuming the sprayer is worth their salt

Didn't want to discuss that until I have decided to accept or reject but I will be pushing hard don't worry!

Already have grills, Carbon spoiler, diffuser, Carbon Mirrors, M-Perf Side Graphics so not a lot left to ask for!
