x40i initial long crank
Does anyone else have this?
I've noticed that the very first crank at the push of the start/stop button is about 2-3 seconds longer than startups there after. Just wondered if this is a characteristic of it or is something potentially wrong? |

I?ve had this a couple of times on mine - not dependent on weather or anything. On one occasion it came up with a drivetrain error but started normally when I tried again.
Didn?t bother with dealer as they won?t find anything and not been regular enough to be a concern. |

Will check tomorrow morning but from memory it starts pretty quickly.
I tried tonight after work and it started instantly, almost as soon as the starter engaged and just like after a stop/start event but the engine will not be fully cold after leaving it at work all day. Will report back in the morning

Our lowly 4-pot starts with just a jab of the button, hot or cold.
I would suspect fuel pressure bleeding off after after a long stand or a lazy fuel pump. I would imagine that there needs to be a huge amount of pressure in the fuel rail for a direct injection system.

Made a note of mine this morning, as Mustard3 says - almost instantaneous.
Have you actually timed yours bmwak ? or is it a perceived 3 seconds? If it does take that long to crank over, thats not right.

It is perceived. But funnily enough it did it at time of posting. Apparently my dealer said that maybe at that time the car wasn't locked and so the fuel pump wasn't primed. It has started instantaneously ever since. I'll have to keep an eye on it but all starts subsequently after have been 'as normal'. |

I have never noticed a long start be it cold or not. Get in, pump brake pedal (cos I'm old and that's what you used you have to do to get good brakes and I'm not stopping now) and hit start button, she normally fires up straight away.
