Indicator and wiper stalks

When did BMW change from them nice stalks that they have had since circa 2006 back to old fashioned clicking stalks?

Have loved the previous setup and a little disappointed to find they changed in the F36.

Is yours brand new? You mean the indicator stalk stays pushed down or up? I know the new 5 series has that but didn't realise they're implementing onto current models.

I noticed it on a loaner I got about 4 months ago .... thought it a bit odd & actually now that I'm used to the original one, I think I prefer it !

Am I missing something? If I push mine up/down past the resistance point they stay up/down until I cancel them or turn the wheel far enough to auto-cancel. Never been any different afaik.

How old is yours? On both my F30's and my E90 you click the stalk up, it clicks and goes straight back to the middle.

I've got the revised stalks. Doesn't bother me one bit. In fact because the auto wiper function is now turned on by moving the stalk the indicator light is now visible when on.

You don't press the button on the end of the wiper anymore?!

What a backwards step. I really like the old style, so now they are just like our cheapy Octavia. I really notice it driving that and much prefer the old BMW ones.

Specific thing is up 1 click to engage auto wipers, but if you need the odd wipe you either have to click up again to always on or change the sensitivity down then up.

On the BMW it's button to activate auto and a quick push down to do a manual wipe - so much better.

Nope. No turning on the 'auto' (kinda) wipers each time it rains anymore, just click into auto and leave there. Best upgrade on the LCI

Oh so you can leave it in auto all the time like the headlights! That is a good idea!

Sorry, just got the point of the thread (duh). When I said stay up/down, I meant stay on. Didn't realise there was a new (old) type around.

I'm sure that all makes sense if you read it carefully

Mercs have had this for ages. It's OK until you drive into an automatic car wash without paying attention.

I think the op is saying his are like the E46 and other cars of that vintage and older ones so they physically stay up/down until the wheel is turned back to cancel them, or you click them back to the middle.

Yes, I get that now - I missed the point originally. My previous post was about wipers, not lights.

LOL, wash my mouth out with soap

I reckon IMOs are safer than the average gang of illegals, not to mention more ethical.

So many first world problems...

Seems so many users could not get used to the current system (used since about 2003), we've had to go back to older 'mechanical position' switching.

I really like the E90 style of indicating, not happy with this change if this is the sweeping trend across the range on newer BMWs.

My 3 month old F34 has these stalks.. my 3yr old F30 didn't..

When you put the indicator on - it stays in the position and releases with the wheel. They are slightly more shaped too, so the back is rounded a little bit. I agree the auto function is better, but like someone pointed out - if you want to do a quick wipe you have to push it to off and the. Push for quick wipe again... I tend to just pull the lever and splash the screen with a bit of washer fluid..
