Painting OEM M Performance F3x Front Splitter - Stone Chip Magnet?

Hi all,

Thinking about getting a M Performance front splitter for my F31.

I don't like the matt black plastic look, so would probably want to paint it.

How do they hold up to stonechips etc?

Stone chips will happen, mine has and I only do low miles around town.

Scraping is worse though, especially lowered.

Imo fit it first and drive around for a while to see how much it scrapes, I've taken mine off now as I'm so sick of it scraping.

Just go up ramps at an angle. It's too sexy to not use

And no one can see scrapes unless they're working on the car

I'd rather just drive my car like a normal car tbh.

I painted mine and been few months now and still no chips , scraped once .

I only painted mine as didn't want unpainted black plastic on the car.

Paint it .

Only scraped mine a couple of times and I'm running ACS springs.

You do pick up some chips - I had the wingketscoainted with the bridging part staying matte.

Then again you'd pick up the same chips on your bumper. If a major worry get a bit of PPF to protect.

I'd imagine the lip would get as many stone chips as the rest of the front end would. Mine sure the hell has, but it's 5 yrs old now and I drive 160km's round trip daily so it's bound to.

What I'd be more concerned about is it scrapping on speed bumps if you've lowered it or plan on lowering it than stone chips tbh.

I don't think your drive will go with front splitter and ACS springs

I would fit springs first and then see if you can fit splitter mate .

Thanks guys.

Reason for asking was I'm having my M3 mirrors painted, and whilst mixing paint / paying labour to paint etc, thought it may be wise to get the splitter on!

May just get the F31 M Performance roof spoiler instead for now!

I understand. Also it depends where you live .. I'm down south where there's not much elevation change. I'm sure somewhere near mountains like Tennessee I'd be scraping a lot more.

Yes go for it. If you leave it black unpainted, it will only fade and look shite in the sun anyway. It's a consumable item
