Mileage indicator to next service query

I recently had a service by BMW, and the car came back showing 19,000 miles or 2 tears to its next service.

However after 300 miles this reduced to 18,000, and after another 400 miles now indicates 17,000. I am now dismayed that the car will need another service in next to no time at the current rate. I called in to the dealers, and spoke to the service manager who said this was perfectly normal, even after telling him this is an unusual decrease rate for me, and the car has not been driven any differently to the past 5 years of ownership without this issue.

He also went on to say that the mileage count to the next service can also increase depending on the driving style, which I very much doubt.

How can this be normal to reduce by 2000 miles whilst covering only 700? Any thoughts or experiences please?

Picked up the 530d as an ex-demo that had done 2750 miles in heavy traffic over 6 months. It showed 'service in 11,000 miles' I've taken the mileage up to 8k with mostly motorway driving and it's now showing 'service in 10,000 miles' so yea, it can go up with different driving conditions.

I've never know them to increase. But they can hang onto a given figure for a long time. So it might pan out over time. The engine uses and oil condition sensor. So the new engine oil might well have gone black very quickly after the service as most diesel engine oil does.

That's the nub of it. It won't increase, it'll just stay the same as your mileage increases until it's caught up.
