Good idea to activate DVD in motion?

Hi,

I was thinking of having DVD in motion on my idrive for the missus. Do you think it's a good idea or any one over here has activated this feature?

I have veen given a quote of £99 from Grosvenor Motor Company in reading to activate this. I tried to activate it on my own via coding however since its the latest idrive it doesn't seem to work.

Is it even worth it?

Thoughts?

I've always had it activated but almost never used it.

Discussed this just today with Tengocity that it's only useful when waiting to board a Eurotunnel train or ferry and you're crawling along a car park.

Absolutely never use it when moving on the road - its disorientating seeing moving images and will cost you your licence.

It's the only time I've watched a dvd in the car to be honest. And mostly if waiting in the car I'd find plenty on you tube to watch on my phone or ipad.

adaptive cruise with stop and go gives you a good safety blanket though.

+1. I coded mine but hardly have used it mainly because I don't have that many dvd's and have not put the time in to burn some. I wanted to make a few music video dvd's but have found that to be a laborious process.

I wouldn't pay £99 for it though, that's just crazy.

Indeed. Buy the BimmerCode app and code that and loads of other things for about £25, plus the wireless dongle.

Or buy a cable and code it with esys.

It is possible to code on I drive 5.0 but only works up to 40mph. It will play DVD and also MP4 from the USB slot if you enable it.

The coding chap tried to enable it, my idrive now plays all formats (mostly) from usb and dvd however only works up till 3MPH and then disables it.

He did mention that it will work up to 40mph though.

Do you think he didnt do a proper job? I'll be happy with 40mph

Cheaper to get a good quality tablet if its just for the missus to watch films.
Tablet - £200. (Get her VR too)
Cost to code iDrive - £25, £400+ fine.

See too many muppets driving along watching films on their screens (not suggesting youre a muppet of course).

Of course he's not a muppet as he can't watch while driving. It is once he gets it coded then he becomes a muppet.

Not a good idea. Why risk it? You may end up killing yourself or others. Even if you are doing it for the missus. You may end up distracted.

Too many distracted drivers on the road already.
