Concept 2 Rower

Hi all, a very specific thread so I don't envisage a huge amount of replies.

In short this seems to be one of the hardest bits of kit on the planet to find any discount at all on? After a model D which everywhere is £860.

I'd rather go for a new because ... well just because I'm like that, especially with fitness kit.

Any kind souls aware of discount or anyone run a gym that could help

The best I saw was Argos on eBay had a general 10% off.

----------

PS O know the right answer is just buy it you tight git

-----------

PPS I got down to 1:26 for a 500m effort, decent for a 41 year old gave a VO2 max of 61

Awesome bit of kit, defo getting one when I build a home gym, they use to be 1500+ brand new, but that was a few years back, let me know how much you manage to get one for? Very interested if there is a deal to be had

That's because they don't need to discount them. Even gyms lease them as I understand it.

Good news is you can get back quite a bit on what you paid for one.

Mines over 2 million meters and still going strong.

That one linked to doesn't seem to be a new one.

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about the "new" part so much. I too thought they were a bit steep new, and couldn't justify the cost, so bought a used one off eBay. They are so solid and well-built that I've had no problems with it for the 9 months I've had it, and its been no different to buying a new one (other than me having a few hundred more quid still in the bank!)

And as stated above, they do hang on to value well, so if you decide to get rid, you will get most of your money back on a used one.

My C2 (Model C) was bought brand new in 2001. I seem to recall I paid close on £1k for it.

Over 5 million metres later, it's still going strong.

I'm currently doing 2000m in 7.10 - 7.15, so I'm quite impressed by 1.26 for 500

Thank you, wry kind. A while back I got into the 6 minute club.... just about at 6:56.

However that seems a lifetime ago, I think 8 mins right now would finish me off!!

The CrissFit need in me wants a 1:23 or something to match Rich Fronning back in his pomp!

I used to do 10k at level 10, three times a week.

That would take me about 36 mins then. Now would take me about 36 days I reckon.

I do miss the army in some respects.

Yeah the routine of fitness, take it for granted in some regards. 10k not sure I've ever done that much on the rower. Will need to work up to that stuff, sprinter for sure currently

I've had a model D for years. It's used in the garage which isn't the driest of places and dusty too. The PM4 monitor failed, probably from being a damp garage, at over 2million meters and couldn't be repaired so bought the PM5 which allows you to connect to your phone or tablet and using the ErgData app it gives you extended readings on your workout.

Chris, when you do get one make sure you spend time getting your technique right. Plenty of Concept2 videos on it and doesn't just reduce the risk of getting injured but greatly increases your power.

Also get rowpro and join Nonathlon. Two fantastic additions to a C2 for additional motivation.

I got a bronze in my age group back in 2011/2012. Used to row 6 or 7 times a week, 10k was my poison. Sadly I don't have the time to keep it going.

Wow, Nonathlon. I'd forgotten all about that !

'robcantrow', 2005 or so.

I've never broken 7 minutes for the 2k, my best being 7:17.8.
I used to do the half marathon in about 1:26, which was averaging about 2:02 per 500m.

Ha, it's a small world at times. You come across lots of 'handles' on other forums, some could be people you come across on here.

Unimaginatively, mine is just Gordon C on nonathlon.

2012 was my most active year, and according to the listing I did a 1:24 half marathon.

2k is just a killer distance, too short for it to be a steady pace, and to long to be a sprint. One thing is for sure about it, you have to train at it to get it right. It's all about controlling lactic acid.

Go for a Water-rower instead. You will enjoy it far far more.

Bought one second hand on eBay for £500 - never looked back.

Had it serviced and they essentially refurbished it.

Mighty be a silly question but what is better about a water tower please? Smoother?

It's hard for me to breakaway from the C2 as it's so universally used. Almost the times competition and comparison is as important as the rowing machine. E.g. C2 distances are like for like with a huge range of people.

I've tried water rowers a few times, and never really got on with them.

I've often noticed a 'slap' at the start of the drive, which tends to feel like it's pulling my shoulders too far forward.
