Just curious....anyone know why the front wing air breathers on the LCI cars are now blanked off?

Just had a look, there's no hole going through to the wheel arch but there's a block of plastic in the wheel arch where the hole should be... really strange

Pffft! What a load of tosh! As mentioned in earlier posts, I too thought it was about their air curtain or something to smooth air flow over the wheels. Until they can't be bothered anymore...

See what I don't understand is if you check price for earlier F32 compare to new one and it's more expensive and looks at them cutting corner to save more money or whatever they tried to do it's just not good .

Can't yous fit old trim on yours ??

I likes that on F32 myself

Yep pretty sure that was in the marketing bullshit when I bought my previous non-LCI 420d. Glad it's gone now I've upgraded to a 440i

Theory.

Blocked intentionally on LCI...so the new G20 can be X% more aero/slippery/drag coefficient ?

Maybe it's to prevent all the crap that used to build up after a journey through crap weather like this on my previous car from a post a long while ago!

I hope so, on the X5 they are awful and spray crap right along the side.

I'm often thinking of blocking them up!

Isn't that just off the wheel?

I think you're both probably right and it is off the wheel I would imagine only a small amount is thrown through the slot. I reckon it looks as bad as it is because of the airflow from the breather drying the area out quicker?

Here's the answer from BMW

As part of the model update we have also revised the front apron and the air curtain. As a result, the air flow has changed, which considerably reduced the aerodynamic effect of the air breather.

Aerodynamic efficiency is primarily ensured by the air curtain which has retained its function. This EfficientDynamics feature channels the incoming air around the outside of the wheels, ensuring the airflow ?hugs? the wheel arches and fuel consumption is reduced as a consequence.

We retained the air breather on the 4 Series as right from the outset, the air breather was conceived as a design element which, amongst other things, supports differentiation from the 3 Series.

Every BMW has its own distinctive aerodynamic characteristics. This is why the statements above are not valid for other model series.
