F31 335d End of Warranty Check
Hi Guys,
Been a member for a while now, but this is my first post. Ive got a 2014 F31 335d thats been called up for its end of warranty check in a couple of months. Im already going to see if I can get a new set of wheels as they have corroded around the centre caps and the wheels have no other damage. While ive got the chance to I just wondering if there is anything else I need to be looking out for / checking. Also what are peoples thought on purchasing a BMW extended warranty? Cheers |

Mention about the wheels, of course.
Don't worry about anything else. Basically, it's in the dealers interest to find problems, because BMW pay them to fix them all. Regards the warranty, the price does depend on the level of cover, mileage the car has done, if you want BMW Assist, etc. But the BMW website will give you a price, or you can get a price on the phone from them. Then it's just a case of deciding if you can foot the bill for faults or not. I went comprehensive warranty, £100 excess, including BMW Assist. Cost about £500. |

Ive never run an extended warranty and was in credit with my last 2 cars each run from new - an E46 330d for 7y and a RR Sport for almost 8
Im fortunate that I had a decent local indie for each one who would service it and give me straight opinions when things fell off or failed The thing is Im not so sure Id run a current car without a decent warranty, when things fail I have a feeling it will increasingly be a "computer says no" scenario. Just looking under the bonnet of my 335d its easy to see - well nothing really which is kind of the point, even my RR Sport had oily bits I could identify and get to with a spanner. A turbo for a 335d would probably be fairly simple, but the car is just so complex that I fear an electrical gremlin would be an absolute nightmare. Cheers |

There does appear to be a single 3 series price for a warranty. It may be fairly poor value on a basic spec 318i, but on a loaded 335d costing about twice as much, it seems quite good value to me.

I've had 2 RRS, and I made sure I got rid of them before the warranties expired.

My F31 has just had its end of warranty check today; nothing needed attention and being honest the car has been faultless for 3 years and 45k miles - can't ask for more than that.
Experience with previous BMW's means I'm not going to extend the warranty; in the past I've spent more on the warranties than the cost of any work that's needed doing so I'll probably just put the equivalent monthly amount into a savings account instead. Just watch the engine or gearbox go pop next week now I've said all that! |

I got cover for around £350 without assist and it has a 100 excess. I have break down cover anyway for next to nothing through quidco so getting it to a bmw garage shouldn?t be a problem so dropped assist.
Like others have said having so many electrical and also very expensive parts it?s worth it even if you don?t claim for a few year as it?s probably very easy to get a fault that could cost 1000?s to sort, bmw labour is expensive enough |

Running these modern cars without a warranty can be a bit like rolling a hard six, but if you have a good local BMW specialist who doesn't charge too much it can often work out ok. I certainly wouldn't use a main dealer though for out of warranty repairs I have to pay for myself.

Thanks for this guys really helpful so far
Ive have a great local garage that can do most of the work I should need doing such as servicing etc. It was more if any larger problems started to occur as I plan to keep this car for at least another 3-4 years as its just to good of a car not to. But if its only £350 to extend the warranty without BMW assist its something Im now considering. |

For those who have plenty of options, food for thought. I've just had some insured warranty work for nothing more than 'trivia'. A misty side view camera and one Comfort Access door handle not responding correctly. Parts alone were around £700 at BMW prices. Add in the labour, and programming... warranty is a no brainer to me. Plus peace of mind. I also come to this subject from having a major failure at about 65k miles. A V8 engine replaced under extended warranty, a 'five figure' replacement. |
