buttons on key fob not working

I just picked up an e93. Previous owners gave me 2 keys.

Car has comfort access (first time for me!).

One key works fine, everything works.

Second key has a brand new CR2032 battery. Comfort access works fine whether starting car, and touch locking or unlocking. Slotting key into car starts car fine as well. However, the unlock / lock / trunk buttons on the FOB itself does not work at all.

Is this a bad key FOB or is there some sort of key initialization that I need to do?

sounds odd. the comfort access I could see not working first, like mine, which had to be coded. But for the buttons to go bad my guess is it's internal components that are bad.

Yeah the key fob was bad. Took it all apart and it looked like the previous owners took the key through some water. I ended up getting a used CA keyfob on ebay and transplanted the chip that contained all of the "keys". Works great again!

my situation

Both of my comfort access keyfobs have stopped working.

I have replaced each battery with a brand new energizer 2032. Unlock,Lock, and trunk buttons do not work on keyfobs.

All fuses are ok.

Central Locking dash button locks doors with single press (doors closed).

Central locking dash button unlocks all doors if pressed twice (doors closed).

Comfort Access Driver door handle functions OK with grab unlock and thumb lock.

Comfort access passenger door handle does not function.

Comfort access engine start with keyfob in my pocket works ok.

Trunk button on trunk door functions ok.

confused.

Kinda points to the passenger handle going bad.
(if the door unlocks and locks with the dash buttons and keyfob.)

would the passenger door lock failing, prevent the remote from working?
