Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport
Mounted up a set of the new Potenza RE760 Sport yesterday ($681 shipped, plus a $50 rebate). Drives really nice; smooth and quiet. Both ride and noise are improved over the RE050A runflats. Steering response lost that initial ultra-sharp turn-in, but it's still really good; much better handling/comfort compromise (IMHO). I also bumped up one size (225-45/18 front and 255-40/18 rear) and now the speedo is virtually dead-on. Measured 3 mile run in 181 seconds @ 60 mph indicated. So, win-win. I wonder, though, is my odometer off now? Tires are approximately 4% bigger diameter, so I would assume the odometer would be read 4% less miles than actual. Also, I would assume that the gas mileage read-out would also be low by 4%. If true, that means that 10,000 miles traveled will register 9,600 miles on the odometer.

congrats on the new tires! My rear tires are gone and need to be replaced. I was thinking of gettting the Potenza RE760 Sport also. If you dont mind me asking though, why did you get a different size than the original? I mean why didnt you get 255/35/18 for the rear for instance? do you just like the look of fatter tires or is there another purpose?

It's a little bigger so it fills the wheel well better, but mostly to correct the ridiculous speedometer error. Drives me nuts to have to constantly correct in my mind for the 5% speedo error they build into these cars.

On my car (prior to the new tires) indicated 70 on the speedometer meant I was actually going ~66.5 mph (5% off).

I just ordered these tires today..... Anything will be better than the POS RFT.
I liked the reviews, the tread design and the tread wear..... Hopefully they dont suck... Ill add my 2 cents when I get them. |

I have just put the new M3 wheels on mine, and that has 245/40/18 and 265/40/18's on them and the ride comfort is just sublime, this is the same set up as Alpina use in Europe on their B3, they also use the springs from a 335xd which are firmer and sit a little higher than SE, only around 1/4" at most, but enough to take the extra sidewall.
My speedo now reads 71mph at 70mph on the gps instead of 74/75mph, which also means that my car is not adding 600 miles to the clock with every 10k miles I do!! Unfortunately the M3 wheels are an inch wider and have a much more aggressive offset at 29 front and 23 rear, so these bigger tyres rub on my car, so they are going to have to go, but I would recommend this upgrade for any user who wants to reduce the gap between wheel and fender and increase comfort. |

I've had the Bridgestone 760 sports on my M3 now for about 1 month - 1,400 miles or so, I had the OEM Continentals Conti's prior.
I stopped in the tire dealer today to see if I can give them back. I've noticed the following: 1- the car seems looser with these new tires 2- traction control kicks in much more frequently now, in comparison to the Conti's with over 16,000 miles on them. 3- I don't know it's a balancing issue or an alignment, but since the tire co. performed both - I had a slight steering wheel shake at speeds over 80mph which was never there before. I'm in a quandry now, these tires under perform what I had. However, I was told the Conti's are no good. I'm not sure how I will be proceeding yet. Any advice from others would be appreciated. |
