Limp mode

Not sure what is causing this limp mode (half engine light) but it starts happening when the car oil temp hits 110c car doesn't shake or anything all I feel is the lost of power.

What I currently changed so far is both vanos and the camshaft positioning sensor so far

I do not have a reader or a cable. Not sure what to get suggestion would help! Thanks all

EDIT

Cleaned and replaced rings on both vanos

Cmon man, did you even use the search tool?

There's hundreds of these posts on every N54 forum.

There's a lot of things that could have gone wrong with the car;

Check the following:
1. Chargepipes for cracks and/or Front mount Intercooler
2. Vacuum Lines - Replace them with Silicone vacuum lines. The OEM ones are shit and very brittle.
3. Vanos or Boost solenoids.

Good luck!

+50 (and Im being kind ;-) ), get someone with a real cable (if you go to the local parts store they wont produce a n54 code). And get the 4 digit number displayed in active codes. Prob 30ff or 2a* something.. and then go to http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=58

Aren't cables VIN-coded? Unless you have a professional one.

there are 3 different cables. Personal (1 vin), limited (3 vins) and pro.

Most early BAV techs were 3 vins..

I'll buy a cable to see why I'm getting the limp mode. For the past 2 days driving a little hard the limp mode doesn't show up.

I think I found my issue, seems to be oil leaking from the camshaft positioning sensor area I guess I didn't tighten the torx screw enough.

Edit:

Car is not overheating. It's only happens when the temp of the oil hits 110c which is 230F
Also noticed my oil leaking in those areas which

Issue has been resolved. Camshaft positioning sensor bolt was not tightened all the way. Limp mode has not come back since. Thanks everyone for helping!

Ordering cable now, just got limp mode out of no where same oil temp 110c. This is frustrating.

I have checked my vacuum lines. Didn't find no cracks
My charge pipe. No cracks at connections
Bought new vanos solenoids
Bought new camshaft positioning sensor

I'm going to check the vacuum lines again there was one spot I did not check following a YouTube video I found.. will update with pics.

So far. When I start training car there is no long crank at al as mentioned in other postl. Car starts fine drives fine all day. (Home to work, after work errands then home. Then I noticed the oil temp get to 110c a quick stutter and limp mode (half engine light icon) pops up. It has never popped on before that oil temp of 110c.

I'm starting to assume
1. it's possible vacuum leak(1 spot I didn't check which is beside and behind the OFH(oil filter housing)
2. oil change+filter(seen this mentioned in a different post)
3. Spark plugs
4. Coil pack
5. Injectors
6. Maybe HPFP???
