Carly coding failed. FEM Module can't be accessed or back up loaded
Carly failed coding (last time I'll be using it...) the FEM module on my F30.
Usually I can load the back up, but when I tried it said it failed because the back up is the same as the file already coded ( I. E no changes were made) But now my FEM module cannot be edited. I click restore but the restore files aren't visible (there were loads when the restore failed as I mentioned) they're also in my files (android) so I have backed them up. Cannot seem to reinstall it. On the plus side. Everything seems to be working, the adaptive xenons are fine but I did notice the fog lights weren't coming on, although I have one led bulb fitted at the moment causing an error which could cause this. I'm aborting fitting the led bulbs so don't need to make any changes but I'd like to know that everything is back to normal and I can if I want to. Steps tried: Reinstalled carly Turned car, phone and adapter on and off etc Installed carly on my tablet and added the back up files Nothing worked I've contacted carly too no reply as yet. Help? |

Be sure you have the correct car model and engine selected before you connect. Other than that, it should be able to "read" the FEM-BODY module and enable you to check/uncheck features or change values, and re-code. If it's not doing that, then the Carly support people will need to determine what's going on. I've been using Carly since it was "BMWhat" and never had any issues. That said, I use it with an Android tablet and their Gen-2 BT module. If you're using it with an IOS device and a Wi-Fi adapter, there may be some issues I'm not aware of.

OK, another question - by any chance do you have an external SD card for additional storage, and if so, did you move the Carly app to the SD card? What it appears like is that Carly is looking for the backup files but isn't finding them in the location where it thinks they should be. I'd keep trying with the Carly support folks - send another inquiry, etc. I did a Google search and couldn't find any specifics about where they're stored, but I did find one item where it described the step-by-step procedure to restore a backup file. It mentioned loading/reading the ECU contents first prior to selecting a backup file to restore.

Had a reply from carly with a fix, for anyone that experiences the same issue.
Change file name of your code backup (make a copy first), remove FEM from the file name It'll now show up in the list of back ups. Phew. I don't know if it makes a difference but both times have had trouble coding the car was in motion. I turned off the car Bluetooth, all accessories and electrics this time. |

No it was in motion. Obviously not operating it just whilst the file is uploading. But figure this might have caused it in hindsight, for instance if my headlights turned on whilst it was updating the respective module.
Bit stupid, be interesting to know if that was the cause indeed. |

In the nicest way, please don't code and drive....EVER. Pretty clear as to why but also the fact your car "can" shut itself down when applying certain values! I don't want to be that guy nor do I want anyone else to be the one that slams into you because your car suddenly shut down while in motion. Thank the BMW god's you are in the UK!

Yeah I get it, my bad. I had another reply from carly as I asked if this could have caused it and they said 'my procedure seemed fine'. Will be stationary in future.
They added that this is a known bug and the file name fix will '100% fix it', and that it will be resolved in the next release. |

@knuckle
Have you tried scanning live values, for me the scanning time is absolutely bad with 5-7 seconds for refresh one value on F30 330d 2013 They said would be better with gen 2 Adapter ,but its same shit. |
