It's Key/Car memory; you don't need to code it. Although the dealer usually charges an outrageous fee to do it so it might be cheaper to find someone other than the dealer.

His car is an '08 so it has to be at least FRM2, which means AE as DRL can be coded. This has been covered in the coding forums of this messageboard.

It's my understanding that LCI, ('09) models can have this selected without coding.

I can do it in my 07 non-idrive through the stalk "key" memory options. Maybe it's a Xenon vs. non-Xenon thing?

Isn't that for DRL on off, which are halogen dimmed high beams? In the absence of coding or modifications, I would be surprised. Pre LCI halogen do not have halo rings.

I have an '07 10/06 build with FRM1. I have LED AEs, but it is not possible to code as DRL in FRM1. I have coded AE as DRL and corner delete on a post 3/07 '07 which has FRM2.

I also have a '07 10/06 (US model) but no idea what FRM. I have xenons (single outer headlight that are both low/high beams) and inner halogen "headlights" which are (only) cornering lights; and the AEs are halogen. I can turn the AEs on/off (per key) via my stalk/dashboard display.

You have a coupe though - I think that's the difference that I was not accounting for. My prior comments and experience are on the E90 (sedan). I do know that the E92 has a different headlight assembly than the E90.

In fact, I didn't realize the OP has E92 so all my comments are probably not exactly useful in this case.

I keep forgetting about the coupe/sedan thing as well... but I also have no experience with coding. I hope all of this info is useful to the OP or others who stumble on it in the future Thanks.

Thank you. Note, there may be 2 SET options, one with a "key" icon and one with a "ruler" icon - the "sun" symbol will be under the SET/"key" menu.
