Question regarding extended warranties, tire/wheel protection, etc
First off, my week 38 M2 has finally arrived at the dealership and they will deliver it this friday.
Now, I need some advice..... I always think I'm going to keep my car longer than I do, and that almost never happens. I kept my 911 GTS almost 3 years, and that's been the longest of any car in the last 10 years-- along with my X6. The M2 will be a second car, in addition to my SUV that I take on long trips and when it rains a lot, but will still be driven 3-4 times a week-- albeit on very short commutes to work ( a few miles). If you were to keep your M2 for 3 years-- maybe 4 max (although I doubt it unless I completely fall in love with it) would any of you get any of these options: (sent from the dealership via email yesterday) BMW Extended Vehicle Protection – Platinum $50.00 Deductible: 5yr/75,000 $4329.00 6yr/75,000 $5199.00 7yr/75,000 $5969.00 5yr/100,000 $4839.00 6yr/100,000 $5839.00 7yr/100,000 $7279.00 BMW Maintenance Upgrade: All of these are Full Maintenance Coverages 3yr/36,000 $940.00 5yr/75,000 $3269.00 7yr/125,000 $6369.00 4yr/50,000 $1819.00 6yr/100,000 $4919.00 Tire & Wheel is $2351.00 for 5 years Unlimited miles. Key Replacement is $397.00 for 5 years. The only one I'm seriously considering is the upgrade to the full maintenance package for 36 months -- which is $940....... Full Maintenance covers Brake Pads, Brake Discs, Wiper Blade inserts, Engine Drive Belts and Manual Transmission Clutches. Granted, as a second car, it may only get 5K miles/year, so I'm not sure how worth it it will be for the full maintenance. Then again, if I auto cross or track the car, it might end up being very worth it. Finally, our roads are terrible down here, but I'm only going to be living down here for another year before I move back west to so-cal to Arizona. I'm not sure I want to spend over $2300 for the tire and wheel package. Any advice would be much appreciated. I have to decide in the next day or two max. |

The only thing you’ll likely use in full maintenance package (based on 5k miles/yr) is the wiper blade inserts.
Definitely not worth it. You should do your own oil changes every 3K, don’t wait for the 15k specified by maintenance plan. If you Autocross/track you should have separate set of track wheels and you’ll want to change the brake pads from stock, none of which Bmw will cover. |

I would pass on all, not worth it for the amount of miles you drive and for how long you keep cars.
I only keep cars for 3 years too so i never purchase any of that extra warranty stuff. |

Appreciate the advice-- what if in years 2 and 3 it was 10K miles....... still pass?
It sounds as though none of it is worth it, given that I will need separate brakes for the track, and stock brakes shouldn't wear out that much from 2-3 days per year of autocrossing. |
