Airbag removal

i've watched videos, read diy's for the life of me, cannot get the airbag off my steering wheel. Ended up ripping the leather around the opening.

I have the sport steering wheel (not Msport), and I know I have to stick a screw driver straight up and push the retainer/spring inwards. I can't get a feel of it.

Are there any other tips/tricks?

Thanks!

I tried for hours (literally!) to do it the official way, didn’t work out... eventually I found a YouTube video showing another way that did work. (
) It was still not easy, but at least I was able to remove the airbag. I didn’t remove the steeringcolumn trim, the gap gives you just enough space to insert a screwdriver. I kept the battery connected so I could turn the steeringwheel, released the airbag and then I disconnected the battery before unclipping the connectors. It’s important to disconnected the battery or you will get an error, but i’m sure you know that already.
It’s far from the best tutorial vid, but it helps in finding the springs from the back of the wheel.

I stumbled on this video earlier after I created this post! I was just about to post it too. Thanks!!

Removing the plastic trim that goes around the steering wheel neck is really easy. Just like the video says, start from the back and remove the top and then you'll see the clip for the bottom half of the clam shell.

I think this method took me total of 10 minutes.

I would note that this method DOES NOT WORK WITH M3/M4 or MSPORT STEERING WHEEL ON F3x

I spent 45 minutes trying to use this “quick” method and contortioning myself into all type of position not being able to find what is shown in that video.

I then spent literally 15 seconds popping both sides out the “by the book” way.

Waste of 45 minutes plus watching the video twice.
