I know 162's are made by Ronal and the 19" 230's are made by bbs. Not sure about the 189's.

There's a bunch of manufacturers. Cromodora is another one on the list.

someone that knows who makes the 189's? interesting post.....I just had some balancing issues with aftermarket wheels/tires and the guys at the tire place said BMW OEM wheels are dead on when balanced because they are so well made and held to the highest quality standards by BMW. just curious to know who makes them?

btw - the issue was not balancing but a batch of bad Falken Rt615's (two). getting them replaced with new set of four so all is good.

Ronal makes the 199's as well, but BMW uses multiple vendors

Stick to anything oem. I tried two sets of rims and the car just didnt drive right. I had a set of hp and a set of ruffs. If you throw down for ac schnitzer or hamman(sorry if spelled wrong) thats another story. Yes, I had 2 balances on one and three on the other, all high speed, bla, bla, by different shops. Dont throw your money away, unless you like how it looks better than it drives!

Wow, that's scary. I'm in the market for some new wheels but definatly don't want this problem. I wonder how common this actually is.

fotios - my 162 say "made in Italy", yet the Ronalusa site shows no mfg locations in Italy - think they might be contract made for Ronal by a 3rd party?

197s are made by BBS. Other known manufaturers/suppliers include Hayes-Lemmerz and Borbet as well (in addition to the ones already mentioned).
