From X5 to X3
Hi guys,
Thinking about trading in my 13 X5 50i for a X3 m40i. After driving a 17 X3 msport I really liked it and was surprised how quick it felt compared to my E70 tank. Anyone in a similar position that is planning to go from X5 to X3? Interested to hear your thoughts. It'd be my first ordered vehicle - so it'd be a new experience not being able to drive first. In the same boat, have a '15 X5 M Sport lease that's already over miles, so I'm considering the M40i. My main concern is size..i have 2 teenaged kids, so when the M40i hits my dealer's showroom later this month i'll check it out and decide if i can live with the slight downsizing. otherwise the new X3 seems to have gone a long way towards catching with the X5 in terms of overall quality.

I have a '15 X5 and have already ordered the M40i X3. This past weekend I went to my local dealership and drove one they had there. Now, I love my X5. I consider it one of the best cars I've ever owned - and I've also had a '12 X5 and a '09 X5.
The new X3 was just an awesome drive. I really enjoyed the exhaust note and the performance. My other car is a 335 M Sport and the X3, believe it or not, is more sporty. All that being said, my kids are just to the age where I don't have to worry about them being in the car all that much. So, the smaller X3 is not issue for us. In the cockpit it doesn't seem that much smaller, but the back seat and cargo area certainly feel less spacious. |

Since my wife will be driving it most of the time if the seat difference doesn't bother her we'll be getting the M40i.

The backseat size doesn't bother me any longer as we just got a large family vehicle. This will be my daily driver which is 90% me solo in it so I think I'm going to go for it. Do you think there will be a chance to buy an in-stock one anytime soon? I'd much rather drive the car I'm going to buy.... |

OP, I drove the M40i and 30i a few weeks ago in Steamboat Springs, CO.
Here is the link to my write up of that experience: http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showpo...4&postcount=44 We are not quite ready to trade, but if we were, the G01 would be high on the list of considerations. The passenger compartment is almost identical in size to the F15, only the cargo area is slightly smaller. Tow capacity might be the only deal breaker for us, but in another year or so, not sure I need more than what the X3 can deliver. Really interested to see what the G05 X5 delivers and the G01 X3M.

We went from a '15 X5 28i x-drive to a '18 X3 M40i.
Feels the same, lost a little bit of interior cargo room. Think the X5's engine was too small. But was probably biased because we also had a '15 Audi SQ5 at the same time. |
