Off season question; can studs be removed on winter tires?

I'd like to experiment with studs next winter but would like to have the opportunity to change my mind if too noisy.

Otherwise.... No not really and studs make a helluva racket. If you do not really really need them, I'd avoid them.

No You cannot really remove studs once in place. You would most likely destroy yourself or your tire in the process.

Tire shops experienced with studded tires can remove and install studs. People in the Tahoe area do it every year.

But I think it is really stupid. I just run two sets of rims dedicated summer and winter sets.
