Local Help...iPod Solutions for e92
I am looking for something a little more mod-errific than the line-in mp3 input. And I am not terribly familiar with the dealer ipod solutions (nor do I wish to spend $600 on this). I am hoping for a cool dock that either goes in the ash try area, or an interface that allows me to control the ipod through the steering wheel. I hate having to screw with songs and playlists whilst driving...
Local folks...what solutions are you using? Did you install youself? Where to buy? How much? I am not going to the 5,000,000 posts for this, and I am posting this locally, so it is something we can DIY for the BBQ (together as a community). So, suggestions, and solutions please. Thank you DC Metro.

FWIW, I got the dealer installed Ipod thingy and it works pretty good. definitely works better than the line-in plug. you can check it out on Sat after golf if you want.
i almost never listen to my ipod in the car since i listen to talk radio most of the time, followed by Sirius. although it definitely comes in handy on long road trips

found this on crutchfield.com and i remember seeing this in some catalogs too. its a little cheaper than the OEM one and doesnt need to be programmed by the dealer

For a cheapo $25 solution...
this is what I did... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...highlight=ijet Pros: cheapo no monkeying around with installations, etc. cons: cannot switch from playlist to playlist. can only do next and prev song and pause/play The next upgrade would be to do the BMW ipod integration. about $150 from tischer + installation or DIY. If you DIY, you still need to take the car to the dealer for a software upgrade. Then you have the other solutions like Paul's above. I have not looked into those. Hope that helps.

I had the Ipod adapter in my M3 and it was $350 installed and it was a breeze to use since you can just use the radio presets to select a play list on the ipod. This time around I have Idrive and it would not be quite as easy to select play lists, not to mention the cost went up to near $600 installed.
Anyways I ended up getting a Monster low profile charger and a belkin wireless controller. Both of which connect to the bottom terminal of the ipod and do not use the headphone jack (really poor audio quality). I want to say this entire solution was about $60 total and while it is not perfect, I do not have that many complaints at that price point. We both live in the same hood, so if you ever want to check it out let me know.

I've used almost every combination I could buy both locally and throguh the mail and have not been really satisfied with the result. The audio is ok, you can scroll through some of the menus but it is such a pain, I'd rather not deal with all the trouble. First thing I get installed is the USB interface with the IDrive. Just my two cents and experience...
