Post Your Keychains

Good day Gentz and Ladies,

As all car enthusiasts want to look somewhat outstanding in everyway possible, I searched and thought long way from my order of F87 about what kind of key case and key chains I would like to get once I receive my MY18 M2.

So I found some thread mentioning and showing what other drivers have on them and narrowed my choices down to have two casing as below (since we all have 2 keys including spare);

1. BMW alcantara M Performance Key Casing
This I ordered from the dealer and my friend SA was kind enough to get this with employee discount. And I love the feel of the alcantara but as we all know the nature of this materila, it collects dust and debris like magnet. You will definietly need to stay away from any water or possible contaminent in order to keep it clean as original.

2. Carbonfiberkey M2 Specific Casing;
This manufacturer from US (Dont know if they import or not) immediately caught my attention. And I try to order mine through but they said no stock back in a month ago. But finally they said to be collecting order again so I paid for mine. I was told to wait about 2-3 weeks before receiving my order and already cant wait.

Now I am chasing for keychain as I have casings that I want. Alcantara Key Casing will not allow any chains to be there but want to find something nice that matches with my carbonfiber key casing and only found one candidate as below;

What do you guys have on your keys??? I would love to collect ideas and see your setup

Here's a couple. 1 was a hit, the other a miss.

I considered the alcantara one from the dealer, but that stuff is kind of grippy and would be a pain to get out of my jeans pocket.

The one on the right is an eBay one. The color isn't quite right and the thing is HUGE. It could probably double as a tow hook. It's hard to see in the pic, but there is an ///M etched on the stainless part. I think it was maybe $9.

The one on the left is one I'm using and really like. I got that one from Amazon. It's real leather with a cool carbon fiber finish. On the spine there's a little embossed ///M as well. It's black so doesn't stand out, but a nice touch. This one was maybe $19 or so. It also came with a little leash for other keys, but I'm a single key kind of person.

I think the words of the post came up before the picture did.

You can get the same functional keyring with the purchase of a 1994 Honda Civic. At least that's how I got mine.

If it helps though, just ask your CA. I've always gotten something thrown in when I asked about it. Last time they had this BMW bear (stuffed, not real) that I thought my 2 year old nephew would like. It was about $40 but they just gave it to me when I took delivery of the car.

Haha never seen one of those bears yet. I already got detailing kit/ windshield wash 2 containers/ M logoed short umbrella/ Mini car toy for my daughter/ M logo plate frames/ M logo stem valve cap. So afraid to ask anything more haha.

My daughter loves the gift that BMW gave as well!

FYI, I've had several expensive, genuine BMW key cases (M and non-M) and you can expect the rod and connectors to eventually fail (known issue).
For the M, I couldn't find replacement parts in the big box stores (Lowes/Home Depot), but did find a black rod and silver (no black, could paint) nut in a local old school hardware store and used Lok-Tite to secure the nut.

For my 2012 red 328i, I just purchased the following for $10.99.
Since I keep my keys separate, I took off the carabiner part.

Mine already broke. I went to the hardware store and bought another screw that would fit.

They did tell me that they warranty the key fob holder because I bought it at a BMW dealer but it was too much trouble to go there and deal with them. I don't even have the broken piece because it and the blue washer fell out god knows where?

Anywho I have the alcantara M fob holder not because I like it, but because it prevents me from accidentally pressing buttons on the fob by leaning against a table or whatever. The outside is soft but it's wrapped around a hard plastic shell protecting the key fob. It serves my purpose and it's not collecting dirt and dust, but the alcantara does wear, as you can see in the image below.

I've had mine since September 2016 and several of the white Performance letters have also rubbed off.

Good review and I have one already as well. And trying to keep it clean away from dust and debris as much as possible. Will be frequently changing my key with another casing whenever I like.

I like the design the best from what BMW offers from their own dealerships. Just have to try best to keep it nice haha.

Thanks you for your share.

This keychain was one of the gifts I asked for when I took delivery. Clean and simple.
