BMW Software Updates

With the cold weather I've had some messages about the electrical discharge being too high and the car shuts off the accessory power. From what I've seen in other threads there is a software update that changes the threshold for getting this message to a more realistic level. (As well as popping up a message when the steering wheel heater is activated and other things)

Can anyone advise if this update is something that can only be done at the dealer? Or is it possible to DIY the software update? I have ISTA-D / ISTA-P, though I haven't really done anything with the latter as of yet.
