New M2 vs Used c63 507
A guy is offering me $91000USD for his 2014 c63 coupe 507edition 45000km.
The price is very close to a brand new 2018 m2 before tax ($87500USD). IRL, after 10% tax, plus first year insurance, a brand new M2 will cost $94500USD. (If I did decide to get a M2, that would be the 2019 comptition, that will total the price over $100000USD.) There are so many things holding up my decision. the C63 is going to be and feel faster, sound better; while the M2 being lighter, handles better, feels more nimble The used c63 hold its value better, M2 will have full warrnties and the wide body is sexy, c63 has an epic engine, m2 turns better, ext... I will be driving the car everyday to work, roading condition is alright, 30% city road, 70% highway. And some weekend drift. Thanks for any input. H |

I have driven both
i am not that into the twisties so rhe extra nimbleness of the m2 doesnt sway me much the m2 looks way better the c63 engine is NA and offers better sound and no lag the transmission in the m2 is wsy better...rhe c63 has an awful transmission hope that helps |

No wonder you are not into the twisties, Toronto has some long ass straight roads, espacially Young St lol. People don't worry too much about their car size if they live in North America; but it matters a lot in Asia, maybe Euro too. I agree the transmission on the w204 c63 doesn't give you down shift when you needed it. But the massive tourque make it up a little bit. I guess the C63 is more of a Mustang alike, where the M2 is more of a Porsche alike. Last edited by quduoheng; 02-22-2018 at 07:56 PM.. |

if the 2 cars are this close, how about weighing in factory warranty into this formula?

Basically the same weight and HP of the new C63S. The 507 isn't as quick probably due to its subpar tranny (as you pointed out) and less TQ. Regardless, 12.3s @ 117 mph is fast. I'm not so sure it holds its value better than an M2. That's yet to be determined.

Yep, this "special" edition not worth the price premium over a base C63

However, most likl,y In an ideal situation, assume both c63 and m2 won't break up on their own for the next three years. Then the factory warranty isn't a big factor in this equation. But sh1t happens, you never know when will you become the "lower 1%", facing all kinds of machanical problems while most of the owners don't. And I think I am not mentally and finacially prepared for major repairs. Of course cars with factory warranty is a better car to own. But I want to know more about which car is better to drive everyday. |

I wish I can just shovel that 6.2L into the M2. Also have a lot of understeering |

For the same price, the new M2 will depreciate 10-20% the first year. another 10% next year. Depreciation only slows down after a few years and when the remaining value of the car is about 50-60% of its MSRP. So, that's how I figured the c63 will hold its REMAINING value better, compare to a brand new m2 |

The c63 it's likely the more comfortable car, but that doesn't make the m2 uncomfortable. Will the m2 competition depreciate much? They're only making it for two years at one factory.
NA engine would be nice, not many more being made, but doesn't sound like you intend on keeping either car more than three years. I personally don't like the way AMG cars sound but everyone else does. A slow transmission is a deal breaker for me, I couldn't stand it. Ones a better driving car and the other is a nicer luxury car with a NA V8. If you could drive either for free for three years before it was taken from you which would you want? |

I still can't pick it. really like the engine of the c63 and everything else of the m2. Heard m4 owners say m4 accelerate 'significantly' faster than m2. I have driven m4 before, it could be a deal breaker for me if the acceleration of the m2 feels 'significantly ' slower than m4. I guess I will test drive a m2 to determine if the power is good enough for me. Personally I Think the transmission will work just fine under moderate driving condition. The down shift would be much smoother when the rpm is kept low. But if I would take it to track, it will be bad. Last edited by quduoheng; 02-25-2018 at 03:12 AM.. |

This thread caught my eye as i love both these cars.. i had written a big write up for my answer but i think it would just confuse you more. Get the m2, its drive train and chassis feel a full generation ahead of the c63 would be my simple answer. I love love that c63 but its hard to recommend it at m2 price, i would recommend it to someone with a lot of financial freedom as a 2/3rd car or to try and get it at a much cheaper price if you really want it. Try and get the performance pack on the c63 if it saves you a lot over the 507 cars .

Personally, I've owned one and I believe that that v8 will go down as one of the best v8's ever made.
That being said, the M2 is just better all the way around. That engine is really the only hallmark.

You guys are forgetting about the fact that the M2 Competition wil have a S55 motor. I think the values of the M2 will drop significantly when that is released.

Before we connected on the M2 we're getting, we looked into a 2016 Merc AMG, forget which model, but it was a 4-door that was otherwise beyond our purchase range. It was on Swapalease, at a price that was far too good to be true - the guy was giving a massive subsidy to make that car go away. We came very close to pulling the trigger until we pulled the info on the VIN and saw the recall details. There must have been a dozen, and none of them were trivial - we're not talking radio buttons and trim pieces. His car had to have spent more time at the dealer than in his garage. We couldn't believe that many major components on one car could face recall. We can only assume that's why he was writing a huge check, to make the car go away.
It's a different year and car, but my thought is...dig deep on the service and recall history on that Mercedes, just to cover your bases. |
