R&T M2 is one of the "Ten of the Worst-Sounding Performance Cars You Can Buy Today"
https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...-cars/?slide=5
...BMW M2 The M2 is probably one of the best performance cars on sale today. It's fun to drive, and looks good doing it. Where it falls flat is with its turbocharged straight-six, which makes too many fart sounds instead of wailing screams. |

I mean I guess it's true relative to the NA monsters of yesterday and the ones you can still buy like a GT3 or GT 350r, but relative to other forced induction cars in the same price range it's pretty good.

Isn't R&T in the top ten worst in automotive journalism?

I saw this and was irrationally irritated at it, since I think the M2 sounds great. Clearly they meant to say M3/4. That said the video they chose backs up their complaints, and to me doesn't sound at all like any M2 I've heard. If the author was just basing comments on that video it would make sense, but I can't imagine they've not heard one elsewhere.
Ultimately it's meaningless, of course, but still weird. This is the only "professional" review I've seen that says anything negative about the M2's sound. And unlike Tag I normally like R&T! |

Wailing screams?
Lol, what kind of sound is this moron expecting from a 3 liter turbo straight 6? It's not a naturally aspirated V12. That being said, sound is completely subjective, and you can easily change it with an exhaust/downpipe if you don't like it stock. |

I think they are focusing on the decel fart sound that happens when you let go of the accelerator pedal. Which there should be no reason for it to sound like that lol. When I finally tune mine hopefully I will be able to get rid of it. It should have been pops only from the factory since during load the n55 sounds great in my book.

Just wait until it gets the S55, it'll sound even worse.

Reading some of the other cars that made this "worst" list, the writer clearly doesn't like the sounds of turbo engines. I mean, he may be a NA purist and that's his prerogative

Saw that bit of click-bait on R&T last week - they apparently hired some trolls several months ago who post bs 'lists' like that all the time now.

Hope more people see my comment below to avoid confusion and being misled.
What the magazine hear and make this kind of judgement from is a video showing a heavily modified M2 doing mountain pass on a excessive burble tune. Burble on that particular car is probably annoyingly overwhelming. That car happen to be one of our forum members'. Let me be fair to say, M2 stock exhaust is pretty nice under 4k rpm and when shifting, but at top end it is quite muted, just like most of other turbocharged engines, including AMG's glorious V8 M177/178.
