I think it depends on the gearbox, the Sport Double-clutch automatic transmission Seven speed has the electronic lever. That’s only on the petrols the diesels come with the 8 speed sport automatic, that doesn’t have the electronic shifter. Well from what I can find out, once my 20d sport auto arrives I will know which it has :-)

I'm close to buying a late 2017 X1 which won't have any of it, but still a lovely car

Do miss this after my last 2 cars had the electronic shifter. My 'old style' 8 speed stick on my October 16 car does the job but it's old fashioned & clunky in comparison

Manual Shifting, + is to select a higher gear, - a lower gear. It is independent of DTC and you can select it anytime. The computer will always override your gear selection if there is any danger of damage. And you have paddles by the wheel for changing gear should you need to? |

Also, pushing the lever to the left (And leaving it there) puts the transmission in to sports mode, which means it's much keener to use a lower gear. You will see "S" and the gear number in the dashboard display.
It has been suggested elsewhere that if you do this and also put the Drive Experience Switch into Sports mode the gearbox will be even more aggressive, but I haven't really noticed a difference (Not tried hard enough!). |

Hi Lawton, did your bmw x1 xdrive20i come with the same shortened gear lever as the one geord posted a pic of? iv also ordered the xdrive20i xline with production date of 16th feb. im hoping it will have the short one instead of the large clunky stick.

Hi All. I have just recieved a video of new x1 from the dealer. I pick it up on May 11th. The vid shows the new gearshift lever, no model designation on the doors, it is now on the tailgate and from what I can tell the new LCD speedo head.
x1 xdrive 20d sport auto. According to the VIN it was built on the 28th March 2018 |

I collected my new X1 today, same spec as yours. My car was built on 11th April and has the new electronic gear lever, black panel dash display and new style seats. They’ve also moved the exterior badges too. I didn’t know it had been updated when I ordered so it was quite a nice surprise when I picked it up this morning. Hope this helps! |
