Can ambient lighting be modded for more color choices?

Having only white or red is pretty limited. Is it possible and easy to mod for more choices?

X2 has more than 2 colors (like 6 or 7)..and X2 and X1 interiors are essentially the same. Maybe there is chance for mod?
