Question BMW X1 - Does this car have digital speed display & revering camera guidance lines?

Hi there, really enjoying the X1, but do you know if you can have a digital display of your speed in the instrument cluster digital display at the bottom above the steering wheel?

And do you know if I can enable guidance lines in the reversing camera somewhere as they don't seem to be on by default?

Thanks in advance.

Yes it's possible. You need to code your car to enable digital speed display. Did this in mine.
For reverse guide lines you can enable in idrive settings. Don't remember where in settings. See owners manual.

The digital speedo in the instrument display can be enabled, but only through coding with a laptop and BMW software or using a (paid-for) mobile app and hardware dongle in the diagnostic port.

The reversing lines are easier though When you put the car into reverse there are some options on the iDrive display on the left side to enable the guide lines and also obstacle highlighting. These configuration options only come up when you're in reverse and the camera view is on the iDrive though.

Hope that helps!

Think you'll need to code to get the digital speed display.

No idea re the guide lines on the camera. My 335D b4 this had them displayed as standard, haven't got one on the X1 to see but have a look in the idrive settings to see if it shows an option

Might be stating the obvious, but if you get the package with HUD that also shows your speed with no coding required.

Thanks for your replies guys, I already got my car last week, think I've had it about 10 days now, not sure.

Really love this car.

Thanks for the info, I'll check the options for the reverse camera guidance lines but as for the coding, is this hard to do? I don't have a laptop, I've got an IPAD and a PC at home.

Can you do it easier with a USB stick?

Thanks in advance.

I've been playing around with coding with carly. Pretty cool. But there is a few things it seems not to code.

So if I spend £53 on this device how does it work? Where do you plug it into the car?

And will this defo let me code the car to allow me to have digital speed numbers?

Thanks.

Ok I'll look into that, thanks mate.

Regarding the reversing camera guidance lines though, I looked all through the idrive and tried to press the options button when in reverse but I couldn't find any option to enable it.

I've looked on the BMW website where you build your car and there's a "parking pack" so I think you must only get guidance lines in the parking pack maybe? Or with the navigation pack, or both?

Can you enable guidance lines with bimmercode?

Thanks.

If you've got a reversing camera then you can enable the lines on the screen. When in reverse, and assuming you are seeing the view behind you from the camera on the central screen, then you can jog the iDrive controller to the left to get over to the list of icons, and then turn the controller to move up and down that list. One of them is the guidance lines. Click down on that one and you should be able to enable the lines...
