User friendly/inexpensive way to pull codes
Hey guys!
So this morning I had some trouble with my car, it stalled at a light and set off the CEL, DSC, and brake light (all in yellow), and I need a user friendly and inexpensive way to pull the codes to figure out what's wrong. I've got a cheap Actron OBD-II scanner but have been told this will not help with the manufactuer specific codes. Any info would be great! Thanks! |

if you access the check control option either from the BC stalk or if iDrive it is in there as well. Just select "Check Control" and then hold down the BC button and a CC-ID code should appear.
If not purchasing a cheap cable from ebay should work and view codes with INPA. People say not to buy a cheap one, but mine was $20 on amazon and had 0 problems. |

I use the Carly for BMW app. It will pull BMW codes. You can also use the Torque Pro app. Both work with bluetooth adapters, but sometime the Carly app only likes their proprietary bluetooth adapter. Auto stores will pull codes for free, but not sure if they can read the BMW specific codes.

Thanks for your replies fellas!
I don't have a laptop, so through the phone is going to be the best route for me. Guess I should have mentioned that and the fact that I don't have idrive in the first post. So between the two, Carly or Torque, which would you go with? Seems like Torque Pro and a Bluetooth adapter would be the least expensive route. Will it work with any Bluetooth adapter? MHD will work, but a cable will be necessary. I found this app on Google Play. It claims to scan for BMW specific codes.
