Two metal anchors sticking out the p/side seat.

what are they and why are they there?

The car is brand new few days old 18 reg plate

They're the standard fit Isofix child seat anchors intended for if you have an approved child seat (usually a rear facing baby seat) in the front of the car.
I think many new cars have them nowadays in the front as well as the rear.
Just had a look and seen that my Q3 has them in the front passenger seat too.
I'm in the UK Midlands too and due to take delivery of my new X1 sDrive 18i xLine before Easter.

Would think for a £36k car they would be a bit more discreet?

other than that its a bueat, I have the 2.0i xline xdrive.
