e92 m3's 255 rears vs e92 335i's 255 rears

ok so im really confused. i go up to my friend to see his new m3 and his tires look HUGE from the rear, but to my surprise there 255, the same as my 335i's... my my wheels dont look as wide at all compared to his..

can it be cuz the m3 tires are pushed out more and flush with the fenders, would spacers fix this LOOK? or is it just something else. how can they look so wide and boih be 255?
thanks

His rear tires have one higher in aspect ratio. If you have 19's on a 335, it is a 255/30/19 while your friends is a 255/35/19. The 35 vs 30 aspect ratio will give more of a sidewall to the 35's, and they will appear to be a little more 'beefier' tire.

Personally, I like the 265/30/19's I am running on OEM rims. If I had an M3, I would put on some 265 or 275/30/19 rubber. The M3 should have some more contact rubber with the power it has.

That's weird, because OEM tiresize for the new M3 is 265/40/18 and 265/35/19.

That's right. The E46 M3 had 255/35/19. The E9x M3 is 265/35/19. It still has an aspect ratio higher than the E90 non-M's.

In 18 inch diameters, the non-M's are 255/35/18 while the M's are 265/40/18 in the rear...

umm, i never took a look, that is what my friend told me, then again he is one of those guys who buys a car for the looks and fame of the M and not because he likes it and will drive it the way it should haha.

man even 265 they look like there at least 5 inch wider then mine..
will spacers give this 'LOOK' of the rear tire being wider. cuz i know his tires are def flush and much more away from the body of the car then in the non M cars, where as my tires are inside the fenders hiding.

Why?

It produces less torque than the 335 does and the 335 does not have traction issues stock.

Wider rubber outback will only induce more understeer and that is not very desirable for most drivers that tend to trail brake.

i still don't get this. are they 265 so they look wider?
or it is because they are 255/35R19 so they are wider than 255/30R19?

the 35 versus 30 has to do with the sidewall, has nothing to do with the width. the 255 is the width. the m3 should be 265.

The m3 has a much more aggressive offset though so that would explain much of the look difference.

M3 are 18x9.5 with 265/40 and 335i is 18x8.5 with 255/35, so I guess the rear tires on the M3 will look much wider than the 335i.
