Transfer case VTG Error

Can anyone help?

I have a permanent DSC error light on my car and after I clear the fault codes after a short drive after I turn the car off the error comes back.

I have tried re calibrating the VTG unit (currently about 60 degrees) and replacing VTG within ISTA, is my transfer case knackered?

440101 Transfer box (VTG) End of transmission service life reached

440115 Transfer box (VTG) calibration angle deviation outside tolerance

48097D Transfer box Fault clutch position known no four wheel drive

Thank you for that document.
It proves my thought that BMW may have installed wrong differential ratios. It may explain why people with multiple transfer case failures have them often... While others don't have failures at all.

It's wise to check front and rear diffs.

How many miles on the car? This is what a fully worn transfer case clutch pack would show.

My transfer case is getting replaced this week but i will as the dealer to check the gear ratio on the differentials... if they dont match they will also need to be changed right as per the document right ? not sure how that will work though as the car is out of warranty....

Sorry, but replacing diffs is fairly labor intensive...how in the world are the wrong ratios getting installed?

Multiple assembly locations, for whichever market the car is meant for. I guess someone makes a simple computer database mistake and cars go through automated assembly.

Have any forum members actually found that they had the wrong differential pair installed? I'm definitely planning to look at them the next time I get a chance seing as I am on transfer case #3, but I'm sure all of the plastic covers and probably the big metal one under the engine will need to be removed to get a look at it. This is definitely a PITA to do on a garage floor. Wish I had known to look when I had it apart!

Probably very few, or even none? No one, not even BMW seems to be doing much investigation as to what is going on, but rather just swapping transfer cases like they are consumables.

Did you know that the front diff is a fully locked differential? All the slip/wheel speed differential between left and right wheel, is all done through the front driveshaft and transfer case. If the clutches clamp too tightly on big turns, the stress goes on to the next weakest thing.

It may even be worth looking at software fixes by BMW.

Hi, do you mind sharing the end result?
I have the exact same codes (apart from 2nd calibration code) on my 435d xdrive
Would very much appreciate your feedback.
Many thanks
