Wheel Rubbing!
Hello,
I just upgraded my e92 to 20" iForged essen wheels, the rear tires are 285/25ZR-20 , and whenever I go over a bump or uneven surface with just a tad bit speed, i can hear the rubbing, i dont know if its minor or something more than that. Whats the best solution to get this fixed? coil overs? suspension? roll fender? any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Worst case scenario crack or dent your fenders or just paint damage. Depends on how hard it hits. I guess if your tracking your car and drive it hard it can have ill affect on the handling as well.
Mine have been rubbing for a month now really no damage just trying to find a shop to perform a nice fender roll. |

I have the exact same problem, i found a shop that will rent me the fender roller but they will not do it for me mainly because there is a chance for paint chipping while rolling fenders and they dont wanna deal with the liability which i dont blame them for.
The rubbing is not that bad, just here and there, and also I have been driving it with caution. I was also suggested a Cambridge kit? but then was told this will cause the tire thread to wear out quicker.

You can camber the rear wheels in next time you go in for an alignment or switch out tires. What kind of tires are you running?

i had the same exact problem. with 285/25/20 falkens with 20 inch essens.
i had to roll the fenders, then shave the fenders, then put bump stops in. it was insane. now my right fender is fucked, and im gonna have a major penalty when my lease return comes around. LOL. Please make your decision with much thought!

Rolling the fender should solve the problem but that's assuming that it's a tire issue and not a wheel issue (offset, size). If it's a tire issue rolling fender should fix the problem. If it's an offset issue and it's rubbing against the struts then you will need some spacers to push the wheels out and then roll fenders. You would have to first determine where it's rubbing though.

if it is because of rear camber being too straight it could cause rubbing also. When you get an alignment make the rear camber -2 or so.. its still within factory spec but yeah, will tuck your wheels in atad more ( assuming you're rubbing on the outside of the fender some camber and a fender roll will solve just about everything when used together. maybe some thinner tires such as falken or toyos too!

they are still rubbing, but I just go with controlled speed so its bit better, but only the tires are rubbing as far as i can tell because they have rub marks on the side. so is fender roll the way to go?

yeah...roll the fenders. my car doesn't rub anymore since i lowered it and rolled the fenders. it actually rubbed more at stock height without rolling the fenders. so, rolling the fenders obviously fixed the problem for me.

Fender rolling is not that big of a deal if it’s done properly, just get it done and that should be the end of your problems. There’s got to be a shop around you that does it. Lots of wheel and tuner shops do it around here for about $50 a fender. The paint cracking issue can usually be minimized by first heating up the paint before rolling the fender.

How low is your car? So weird that I barely ever rub on 20" essens with 285 and Im lowered on KW I didnt roll the fenders because its so rare now. Probably Iforged not being consistent with their offsets. Would not suprise me in the least! |
