Question Do General UHP tires handle better than stock Bridgestone RFTs?

For those of you who switched to General UHP from the stock Bridgestone RFTs, is the handling superior or on par with the stock RFTs? I am trying to decide which tires to get for my new wheels. Thanks!

Compare them on Tireack and you will see. The only category that the stock Bridgestone RFT have better result is on cornering stability. Makes sense since it is a RFT with stiffer sidewalls. All other categories, the Exclaim UHP are either equal or superior.

Go with Falken FK452's. They're awesome. great handling in the wet and dry and minimal road noise. I'm very happy with mine

Yeah I am considering Falkens as well. The only issue is Falkens don't come in 265/35/19 . I might have to go 265/30/19 for the rear. What sizes are you running?

The stock Bridgestones are way better than the UHPs, drive both back to back (in the same size) and it's immediately noticeable.

I have to agree with what Chowbow said. I've never had the general UHP but i did have other UHP's and our stock runflats are far superior.

Our factory tires are excellent in handling compared to Falkens or Generals. But for the 1/2 price of the aftermarket tires, the Runflats can kiss my ass!

I went from Bridgestone RFTs to General UHPs and I feel like it's a different car in so many ways.. Namely ride comfort.

are you comparing the same size tires or are you wondering if the Generals in 19s will have better traction than the stock 18 inch RFTs

Just switched from RFTs to UHPs.

Noticed the difference in the first 20 feet. Felt lighter, more agile, and didn't track on the road.

Just remember that 99% of the reviews you see are from folks who have purchased a bargain tire and are reviewing it as such.

Not saying they are horrible, just saying that like most things in life you get what you pay for, and it would be a shame to cripple your BMW with bargain rubber. FWIW.

It's all good if you're a casual driver, not really into driving hard. Otherwise you are likely to be left wanting.

See my post above (#2). I quoted Tirerack's own comparison of the two tires in OEM size (it that matters on the data) off their site.

that's user review...and they're not in the same catagory, the rating is somewhat relevent to the other tires in the same catagory, so it doesnt make much sense to compare them that way.

Take a look at the Sumitomo HTR Z III, which Tirerack also sells.

I am down to two tires the sumitomo htr z III, and the Goodyear F1 asymmetric. Price of the tires way different, but both have great reviews.

I made the switch. They're OK tires. Ride quality is significantly better on the generals then stock runflats.

The grip is mediocre at best IMO. But for the price, I really can't complain. I do like to drive hard often enough to notice the lack of traction and soft sidewall. Like someone else said, if it's for a DD and you don't drive it hard, they're more then suited IMO.

FWIW, I think I will be selling these and switching to some good year eagle F1 GS D3 next summer. Don't get me wrong though, for the price, they can't be beat.

We do test tires, but the test data is found separately from the consumer survey data.

Here are tests that we do:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testSearch.jsp

Here is where average customer survey data is displayed:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/index.jsp

Survey data is only comparable within it's category, i.e. "Grand touring all season" or "Max Performance Summer".

The Exclaim UHP is a good tire for the money, and will ride better than the runflats, but does not have as high a grip level.

+1, I have them and don't regret buying them. They may not be the best for the autox course, but I've never taken my car there! 99.999999% of my driving is on the roads around here and they are more than adequate for that. Much better comfort and highway stability over the RFT. The RFT tramline like a SOB. I went from 255 to 275 out back and my traction out of the whole increased a lot over the stock RFT, probably due to the extra rubber. For the price, I couldnt find a better alternative. Now I dont feel bad if I lay down 40 yards of rubber just for fun......I actually like that....

UHPs are better in the rain, in the snow , in temps under 40 degrees F and last a hell of a lot longer than the Bridgestones. Great street tire. Not intended for the track.
