Will Z4 17" OEM rims fit a 230i with M-sport Brakes?

There is a set of 17" style 158 wheels for sale that came off a E89 Z4. I want to use these for winter usage, and retain my 18" staggered wheels for the rest of the year.

Will these fit my 230i which has the larger M-sport brakes?

I have a strong feeling that no 17" wheel will fit with the larger 370mm rotors on the front. If you have access to any 17 to slip on, check if it clears the ears on you brake pads.

I know there are many on this forum who run aftermarket 17" wheels on 235/240's (all have the bigger brakes like the 230-msport), not sure if those use a 370 or just a 340m disc (IIRC, there is the 'regular' big brake kit and an even bigger upgrade - I think the 370 is the bigger size). I know it doesn't answer the question specifically, but it certainly is possible to find 17'ers that will fit. You might try calling a local salvage yard to see if their interchange manual says if they would fit (ask about a 235/240, to be sure they are taking the brakes into account).

I don't believe he has 370 that's BBK. Should be 340.

I finally got around to actually trying the fit with the 17" OEM Z4 wheels on my 230i with the M-sport brakes.

They fit - barely. The clearance is close to about 1/8 inch. Is there a minimum clearance that should be observed, or is this ok?

As tight as possible is fine, but you may get some gouging of the paint on the wheel barrel with small stones being trapped between the brake caliper and the wheel. I run 1mm clearance on the rear wheels of my Caterham on the track and have a number of gouges from this issue, but it is only cosmetic.

This is a photo of the style 380 wheels I have on my 228 installed on a M235. I pulled it from a for sale add on here. Some OEM 17's do fit over the brakes.
