Would BMW regas ac under warranty?
My F31 is 2 years and 2 days old. As the weather has finally turned the ac is now required for more than demisting.
But it’s really not very cold. Would/should BMW regas under warranty as it’s just 2 years old?? Or is a regas considered a wear and tear type item? |

Technically... no. It's a sealed system with a liquid line filter drier. So barring any leaks should never need 'topping up' .The compressor shaft seal is lubricated by oil so with constant use the seal should always seal. Quite often a.c. is not used over winter and thus the seal can dry out and refrigerant can pass by. Hence why your a.c. system should be used 30 mins every week. 👌 |

When dealer ''re gas" your a.c. they actually suckout the old refrigerant and most often... 're use it. It's drawn out through a filter drier that is suppose to remove moisture etc..... but in my experience ( 20 year motor trade from senior tech to group service manager, and now service director of a refrigeration company) this filter is as old as the machine and next to useless. Very few technicians in dealers actually understand the thermodynamics involved with a.c. or refrigeration... and rely on a machine that does it for them. IMO of course 👌

I know they say 2 years for a re-gas but as someone said it’s a bit of a money spinner and 2 yrs use on a brand new car isn’t much.
Possible something else... |

When a.c. is used. It will draw moisture out of the air. This condensates in the heater box and will drop out under the car. But it stays a bit moist in the heater box, and you then get bacteria etc forming and this is the smell. You can now get dedicated a.c. system deoourises that do work. The wurth one is very good. It's a little can that you fire off inside the car with it on re-circ and it kills bacteria.

Better not to get bacterial growth in the HVAC system, than have to deal with it. |
