Excessive delivery lead time !
Hi Everyone on the forum.
I apologise in advance if this subject has been covered recently. In April 2018 I ordered X1 1.8i Sport. I wanted it in Mediterranean Blue and opted for front parking sensors and folding electric mirrors. The dealer told me that we would be looking at a potential delivery date of around the beginning of July. However the dealer called me on Friday to tell me that we are now looking at a build date of September for delivery in October. This sounds ridiculous to me!. Does anyone know of the reason for this excessive delay and has anybody else been delivered this shell shocker. Dave |

That seems awfully strange. I ordered an X2 on April 18th. It finished production a couple of days ago.

No.
X1s are built, in the main, in BMW Regensburg plant in Germany, although I have read that certain versions (the article I read didn't say which) were also due to be assembled by Nedcar in Holland from 2016. X2s are also assembled in Regensburg. There isn't any X1 assembly in the USA. I believe all X3s (and possibly X5s) are USA assembled. Mine, a UK spec 1.8i was ordered Jan18 and completed assembly at the end of February. It was built in Germany (it says so on the type approval label on the lower 'b' door pillar on the driver's side!). I collected it from the dealer late March. So far as the reason for the delay is concerned, I think BMW have been revising specs to comply with the new WLTP emissions standards. This is probably also combined with many people switching away from ordering diesel fuelled cars, thus putting production schedules under some pressure. I believe several manufacturers have been experiencing this sort of issue. And by the way, the 18i, 1.5 litre three cylinder petrol engine is a great little power unit and economical too (overall average 40mpg (UK gallons in the first 1100 miles). Performance is very similar to my previous 1.4TFSI four cylinder Audi Q3, but with the added economy and I don't really notice the loss of one cylinder (the Q3 had cylinder on demand, whereby two of the cylinders would cut out under moderate load, theoretically to save fuel). When I was looking at the new X1 at the dealers and thinking of changing my 2014 X1 towards the end of the year, the salesman said that I needed to order it for delivery before Jul 1st because the current 2.0i is being discontinued. When I asked why he said he thought it was because of the new emissions rules.
This maybe the case for the 1.8i too. My X1 xDrive2.0i M Sport was ordered on 3-Mar-18 and I was told that it would be here by July and in fact it has now been built and should be here in a couple of weeks. |

https://www.just-auto.com/news/bmw-b..._id169279.aspx Another post by Joby53 mentions a 1.8i petrol engine for the X1 being discontinued, but the 18i is the 1.5 litre three cylinder petrol engine which, as I understand it, has very recently been revised, presumably to meet the new WLTP emissions standards. |

I ordered mine mid February and was originally given a delivery date of 1 June. I’ve now been told after chasing up the dealer that it has slipped to 6 July.
When I was originally looking around one of the dealers told me back in February that BMW were suspending production during the summer and that if I didn’t order quickly I would be looking at September/October or beyond for delivery. He blamed it on testing for the new WLTP regulations. I thought it was just a sales ploy at the time but now maybe not. I’m just hoping I don’t experience any further slippage. |

I ordered a 1.8i on the 10 Jan and have been told it’s slipped to mind June. If it slips into July I will tell the dealer to keep it until 1 Sept to get the new registration as it’s not my fault it’s delayed and he’s been gaining interest on my deposit for nearly 6 months!!
