???M2C + CF + Dinan or Cayman GT4?

So, doing a bit of math over here:
M2C=@$59k
Carbon Fiber, wheels/tires, other goodies =@$15k
Dinan S55 P2 package= $8k plus $1k install
Grand Total= 59+15+9= $83K for the M2, the way I would spec it out.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2016 GT4= @$90-100k...
New(2019?) GT4= @$100-110k...

Besides not having the kids car seats in the back, I'm having real trouble coming up with reasons to buy the M2 over GT4. I've been in love with the M2 for 18 months or so when I saw my first 2 series "race car" in the show room. I asked the dealer what that was and if he could sell it to me... he told me no but I could put a deposit down on the next closest thing. I have since picked up another potential slot at a 2nd dealership(increasing my odds) With all the add-on costs that I would not be able to resist adding it pushes the car into a price range that IMO it should not be.

I haven't driven a Cayman in about 5 years now(and it was a baby cayman at that). I have driven M2's M3's and 911's. At 60k the m2 is in a sweet spot... pushing +80k isn't the deal I signed up for.
Don't get me wrong, I know I can have a WONDERFUL M2 or M2C around MSRP, but I know I couldn't help myself with these parts that BMW are adding UNLESS we have to have them installed after the fact at our own shop of choice... that is another thing that may sour this experience

I’ve been offering you my help now for weeks. I’ll take your M2c allocations off your hands and relieve you of this awful burden.

The M2 will punch above it’s weight...but not that much. If you can ever swing a new GT level Porsche, especially this one if it has a NA engine, then that’s the route to go.

If the 718 GT4 gets the slightly defined 4.0L F6...it might be the best car Porsche has ever made.

All the more reason to hand over those allocations.

Get the M2C...it has a lot more scope for tuning than the GT4 and at a much cheaper price.

You can also seat 2 adults at the back

The M2C with the carbon bits and Cup 2 tyres should already be faster than the 981 GT4 at the Nürburgring. Down the track there might be factory ECU reflash power upgrade option that augment its performance. Not to mention there already exist plenty of aftermarket ECU reflash options for the S55.

Firstly I wouldn't buy a used Porsche unless it is a CPO. There are 33 CPO GT4's on Porsche website. Cheapest being $98k with 14k miles.

If you have the extra $16k. Why the hell are you wasting time with this thread and go buy a GT4?

Porsche will likely hold it's value a lot more. Get the GT4 unless you need the seats or you want to tune the engine to over 500 hp.

If I could get my hands on a GT4 at MSRP, I would be all over it no question. However, if I did that, I would also have to buy another car as my dd. I can't imagine dd'ing the GT4 unlike the M2C which will be my dd, weekend, and track warrior all at the same time just like my M4.

If you can get your hands on a GT allocation of any kind for close to MSRP they are almost free cars to own, you may be out the taxes after a couple years or something like that. To me this is a no brainer.

Question is how much will the 718 GT4 cost? The fact it will have the 4.0L in it will surely make it a $100k car. Just a matter of how much over $100k the msrp will be. Probably add another $8-$10k in options, can't do a GT4 without the carbon buckets. Maybe they will have front axle lift available for the 718 version.

Good call about adding options from Porsche

As a bare minimum $20k extra

Coloured rims, leather dash, carbon bucket seats, sports exhaust

Easily $30k extra and beyond

Sounds like you need to drive a 718 Cayman before you make another post... nearly everyone that has, seems to think that as a 4 CYL model.. that the Cayman is ALSO not worth the money because it has lost it's soul..... so.. Perhaps the real problem is that the longer you wait.. the cars get worse..?

PS.. honestly.. it sounds like you are trying to find reasons not to buy.. " OH NO.. I will spend so much on mods that now it's gonna be a poor value! "

I may be wrong, but I don't think he's considering the base/S Cayman. The GT4 in 2016 had a 3.8 and the 2019 is speculated to be 4.0.

I agree.. he is not looking at base...

However.. Cayman prices are as follows: base - $56,900 , Cayman S - $69,300 , and Cayman GTS - $82,800 - and all have the 4 cyl motor..

I think it's quite interesting that the complaint is that a $56-58K BMW M2 COMP was ok.. but an 80K BMW M2 loaded with all options and aftermarket doodads including an 8K Dinan power package is not.. when the competing model he is referencing began at 85K in it's last iteration and the new model is rumored to be around 100K

https://www.topspeed.com/cars/porsch...-ar170443.html

Even if the 718 Cayman comes with a 4.0L motor and is priced at 92K... once he sees the options list for IT.. he will be complaining that it's not a good value *either* because it will be well into 911 territory with all the options he wants to put on IT. A 911 Carrera is $91,000 , the 911 T is $102,000 and a 911 Carrerra S is $105,000 ... heck a 911 Carrera GTS would be just $120K... etc etc..

In other words... I am having fun continuing the OP's obvious paralysis by analysis.

No chance. The CURRENT GT4 USED is still over $100k. The new car probably will br the one of the best cars they've ever made. That car will be expensive. And the m2cs will also be stupid expensive kitted out. I mean $85k for an m2, would it be worth it? Oh, and I thinkthe estimate including carbon and dinan mods is lower than it will be.

Its not really about the money. It's more about the correct car. Only so much garage space. I'm well aware of those 30 something cars 🕵🏼, I have an "in" with Porsche. I ❤️ the M2, that's why I am still here.

I see your point. 🙂 Money inst the issue though. It's "value" I would be looking for semi stripper GT4. Only option needed is carbon seats in my book. Everything else I like seems to be on the car already. I liked the m2 for fun and value and at msrp $ point allowed me to entertain making offers on GT3's. At 85k, it's modded m2 vs slightly used GT4(95-105k). Or brand new with the 4.0 at ?msrp.
I COMPLETELY agree that I need to drive a 3.8L GT4 to make my own decision. Problem is... Either way, it's a tuff decision.

I've driven A friend's Carerra GTS... Feels big and a bit heavy(nitpicking)

I drove a GT4 on the street and relatively sane speeds and was quite underwhelmed. Drove the M2 a couple days later and couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

Helps that M2 is half the price in Australia as well
