Park Assist

My UK spec X1 18i xLine has Park Distance Control (508) and Park Assist (5DP) factory options, but when I try to use the Park Assist to get me into tight (or otherwise) parking spaces it seems about as useful as a chocolate teapot!
Also, it only seems to work with Parallel Parking, but NOT with Perpendicular Parking.
My previous Audi Q3 had both, was easy to use although only infrequently needed, and would also, using the steering etc, help me out of parking spots where another car had parked very close to either back or front.
Does anyone have experience of the system, any suggestions re usage and whether perpendicular parking is within the system setup?
And yes, I have .

I've only have our X1 a week, but park assist does seem to work reasonably well, even for off-side parking (e.g. parking to the left in the US).

It doesn't seem to work for perpendicular parking, however.

It does seem to want to get close enough to the other vehicles that the PDC distance warnings go carp loudly.

Nope, only parallel parking, perpendicular not a feature & the car won't 'drive' you out of tight spots.

The BMW website sucks, car only has parallel parking. I've used it a few times without any issues.
