Stuttering 2.0D diesel

X1 XLine X Drive 2.0D Auto November 2016 mileage 8120 engine has started to stutter when cold this in turn upsets the gearbox and it tries to change down it’s only momentary but I have noticed it is becoming more frequent has any one had this experience and what was the solution

Interesting: Similar spec, but November 2015 build. It's started doing this since the weather got warmer (Even though it's worse when the engine is cold). Sometimes it feels as though it's momentarily hunting between gears, especially when cruising on motorways. I'm still getting this problem even though we're in Wales, so I don't think it's anything to do with the air in Tyne & Wear!

Could be the EGR. I had mine replaced recently as it felt like the car was changing down on a constant throttle or when coming off throttle. Very subtle but noticeable and i was starting to anticipate it occurring, which does not make for a relaxing drive.

After the EGR was replaced it was like night and day.

Just hope this isn't a regular thing :-/

It's the EGR. My 25D did the same & was replaced a few months ago. Get it booked in under warranty

Just to add a voice to the other commentary that this very probably your EGR valve. There is/was a silent recall on the B47 EGR valve and BMW will only deal with it when you complain about an issue with the car. I don't understand their logic but loads of EGRs have been replaced with an uprated version on the B47 2.0d engines.

Mine now has new EGR valve and updated software - so far so good: interning that the reported TSB on this forum has referred to 25Ds, but the problem seems to be affecting 20Ds also.

Dealers did the EGR in one day, but had to order in a new bonnet latch, as it really wasn't shutting properly (In spite of all the instructions on how to slam it!). Glad they acknowledged and fixed this, as it's disconcerting when the bonnet starts fluttering when driving on the motorway!
