Woo hoo! Officially put my order in!

I'm based in Canada... So what's next? How and when will I find out when my car will get built? I'm not familiar with how all this allocation stuff works…

Maybe something you should have asked your dealer when you placed the order, no?

Congrats.

The Tracking Basics

To start, learn the BMW Genius phone number. 1.844.4GENIUS (443-6487) BMW Genius has access to the same information as your dealership and is invaluable in helping you get your status. Initially your order will probably be status code 111 within a day of ordering. Then once it's closer to production it will move to status 112, scheduled for production pack. Then, status 150. When you start production (status 150) you'll be able to get your VIN number.

You can also track your car using the My BMW site with your production order number, and the automated 1800 number, but both tend to be several days behind and out of date. https://www.bmwusa.com/secured/content/forms/login.aspx For the 800 number, call 1800-831-1117, option 2, then say "vehicle production status". Note: Do not be concerned if you enter your production order number into the My BMW site and it shows the wrong colors/options. That is normal and will update much later in the process.

Here is a list of common status codes and their meanings:
0 Order deleted by NA
17 Order not Specified
37 Order is at BMW NA
87 Production Week Assigned
97 Order sent to AG
100 Order deleted by AG
101 Error in data transmitted
102 Special Order (no Prod Week)
105 Order out of Prod. Period
111 Order Accepted at AG
112 Order scheduled for Production
**** Up to this point you can still make changes to the car such as options, colors, etc. However, once the car goes to status 150, you cannot make any changes since the car is now in production!
150 Production Started
151 Body Shop Started
152 Paint Shop Started
153 Assembly Started
155 Production Completed
160 Released to Distribution
168 AG Stock
170 Waiting Workshop
172 Planned for Workshop
174 Workshop Entry
176 Workshop Complete
180 Waiting for Export Dispatch
181 Waiting for Domestic Dispatch
182 Schedule for Carrier
190 In transit to port of exit
191 Returned to BMW AG
193 Arrived at Port of Exit
194 Selected for Shipment
195 Shipped from Port of Exit
196 Shipment Arrival at destination port?

Thanks everyone. I've got some reading to do. I am a bit bummed my rep wasn't more forthcoming with info. He left me understanding that I'd just have to wait a bit, and would get more info soon. He was optimistic though because he said I'm the first person at their dealership to actually place an order, so I should be fairly high up in order.

And because I didn't really know what I was talking about, I didn't push him on anything, as I thought I'd come across as not knowing what I'm talking about...

But it sounds like this is fair game to ask, and is not being too nosy!

I read in a different thread this:

You won't get a VIN number until the car goes into production but if you have an allocation you should have a production number, without that you really don't know what the truth is. If you have a production number than that’s a guarantee of a build. Without a production number equals no car.

So it sounds like I should just straight up ask him A) do you have an allocation for this car, and if so, when am I getting a production number. Right?

Sounds like you placed a deposit and not an order.

You dealer must be huge. I don't think mine will get more than 3 and no confirmed allocations yet. Still waiting patiently.

I'm in Southern California, and I'm in the same spot. #1 on the list. I talked to my dealer today and he informed me that he still has no information to give me. I'm not sure the dealers even know if they're receiving allocations for the vehicle yet, but from what he seemed to express to me is that most dealers receive at least one.

Just curious, which rim did you pick? If my sale-person's info was correct that both 788M rims (silver & black) only come with run-flat tires? Only 437M rims come with non-run-flat (that might explain why the tire-size difference between rims). May I know which dealership did you place your order with?

I went with the 788M in black, because I like the looks of the 788 much better than 437. And since I'm going with HS, I figured black wheels would look good, as there will be other things like the grills and window trim that are already black.

But you have a good point about the tires, they didn't give that much thought, because I thought the M cars all come with non RFT tires only. However, when I look at the Ordering guide again now, I'm worried that might not be the case... Strange if they have changed this policy.

Worst case, I guess when the first set of tires wear out I will switch to non-RFT's.

And my dealer has officially now confirmed they have a July production allocation for me!

Hoping to get more info next week, like the production number, and status codes, etc.

Were the 763M wheels an option or only as an aftermarket add-on, or not yet available?

Ottawa (Otto's) has an available July M2C allocation

I was there today. The client that "had" the spot took a job overseas. They offered it to me, but for various reasons (link below) elected to shake hands and put a deposit on an LCI with delivery late June... BSM 6MT, very excited!

Anyway if anyone in Ottawa wants a July build of M2C, call Otto's... I left it there for you
