Exhaust Tip Coatings?
I usually wipe down my Burger Motorsports exhaust tips when I'm done washing my car with my wheel wash mitt. However, some of that black soot is baked on the chrome and won't come off with a wash mitt. Every time I wash my car the black soot that won't come out has spread a little farther. About every other month I remove the tips and bring them inside for a metal polish treatment.
I really hate having to polish them every two months so I've been thinking about applying some kind of coating to the tips so that they'll simply come fully clean whenever I wash my car. I've never heard of anyone coating their exhaust tips so that the soot won't stick. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use? |

I know exactly what you are saying. I use Bar Keepers Friend. It doesn't scratch the tips at all but does an excellent job of removing the black baked on soot. You can get it pretty much in all grocery stores and Home Depot too. After you clean them give them a coat of polish or car wax.
This was recommended to me by the person who used to detail my cars and who was in business for 35 years doing high end cars like Ferrari, Lambos, Porsches etc. Here are a bunch of YouTube links on the product... https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...riend+for+cars |

2 things I find help.
1. I wash my exhaust tips whenever I wash my wheels. I use diablo wheel cleaner with a ez-clean brush on my wheels so I just give a small squirt of the cleaner and then just give the exhaust tip a super quick brush. Keeps them clean. 2. I keep my optimum metal polish handy. Maybe once a month I just give the tips a quick polish. It takes 30 seconds to rub a little polish on each tip with a microfiber towel. A minute later give a quick buff and they look great. I find maybe once or twice a year I need to a heavier job cleaning them. Just doing the above 2 steps keeps them looking really good. I find my tips seldom get any build up on them. |

be careful of the BMS chrome tips as the coating is not the greatest and 0000 steel wool will work the best but any kind of metal polish or cleaner will destroy them quickly. i use just ultra fine steel wool
