Underfloor storage well in boot
Hello everyone - just joined the Forum as I will be collecting a second hand 2.5D M Sport next week. First registered March 2016
This is equipped with the 19" 572M wheel option and RFT's. As a person who tows a touring caravan I had hoped to be able to pop a Space saver spare wheel in the boot well, so if I did have a tyre problem, I at least could keep a tad more mobile than relying just on the emergency range offered by the RFTs. , Alas it appears mine does not have the option of a boot well which I find surprising and confusing as to why BMW should make the X1 with and without. Spoke to a friend who has the 2.0i M Sport on a 67 plate with exactly the same wheel and tyre option as mine and he has a full well in his boot, so it doesn't seem that optioning RFTs meant loosing the boot well at the build stage? Be interested to hear how yours is equipped. thanks |

I went for non-runflats in my 2016 build, and I have a space saver wheel and jack in the wheel well under the boot floor. Does your boot floor not lift up at all? Are you saying yours is basically carpet over solid metal, rather than the lift-up / folding floor?
Edit: Is yours like number 2 in this parts diagram? Last edited by CliveL; 05-22-2018 at 04:12 PM.. |

Thanks Clive - not sure what I have got at the moment because the car is in Plymouth some 290 miles away and I collect next week.
Dealer suggested it didn't have a "300" in its build which is the full boot well I am led to understand, so I assume I have the part "2" as per your parts list drawing . Many thanks for supplying the parts illustration drawing. |

Maybe it is optioned with a larger Fuel tank, not sure if that makes the under floor space smaller, you can fit a full suitcase under floor in ours

My US one has the larger fuel tank option, and no spare, and *I* could fit in the area under the floor (albeit not comfortably)

I have the larger fuel tank in my 20i petrol X1 (option code 1AG) and still have the large capacity boot floor too. The option code 300 is "Emergency wheel" on my build spec sheet, and accompanying jack is option code 5DD. I can't see any other option codes that might relate to the different boot floor options. There is "Storage Compartment Package", option code 493, but I think these are just the little bins under the front seats, and maybe the knee-high compartment in the dash..

I have the 28xi with RFT optioned in Canada and I have the full storage opening. Perhaps it is something to do with the diesel exhaust fluid?

My thanks to all of you who have contributed to this issue but on collection of the car yesterday guess what - yes it has got the full size under floor storage area as per the option "1" in the drawing Clive kindly supplied.
I think the confusion arose because the cars build data did not include this "300" code number which possibly identifies a clamp or similar assemby in the storage area to which a space saver spare wheel can be attached. So no 300 so assumption made that no storage area. Confusion between parts department and sales at the dealership but like me you are possibly asking why didn't anyone just go and look? |

Following on to above - now the storage area is available
I would like to persue the option of getting a space saver spare wheel kit. BMW dealership can supply the necessay parts, rim, tyre, jack etc but at a "cost" Has anyone gone the ebay route to purchase a spare wheel kit as these seem much better value? |

Check spare part numbers on realoem.com and see if you can get the parts cheaper elsewhere online instead of at a dealership.

Just replying to confirm what others have said. I have a 20i (larger fuel tank is standard with 20i) and RFTs. Underfloor boot space is there and it’s massive. I honestly think your dealer is talking out of his rear end.
Edit: well, just saw your other reply and as I expected, your dealer was a muppet!! |

Spare for X1
I baulked at the dealer price. Bought from The Wheel Shop (UK). Is an unused BMW wheel but with their own good quality jack. I also bought a cover, again good quality. I assume they source the wheels from sales trade-ins - salesman perk?
