New style electronic shifter slight clunk changing out of park

Hi all,

2018 X1 with 200 miles X1 2.0i X-drive (New style shifter)

Anyone experienced a slight engagement clunk whilst shifting from Park to Drive? It was the first time I felt it last night so took me by surprise! I've experienced it in new DSG cars but wanted to make sure it was normal with these 8 speed boxes too.

Yeah I haven't experienced it since it did it! Usually it's completely silent, just the one instance where I could kind of feel it 'thunk' into drive. I think it's to do with how everything's lined up when engaging the gear.

It happened to me once l think it has to do with how you apply the parking brake if you put the car into park before applying the parking brake it puts a strain on the transmission.

Hey

I just bought one too, but the sDrive.

I'm also noticing the same or similar problem.

I've posted it here:

I'm not sure if it's normal.

With mine it isn't so much a 'noise'. It's more of a slight 'kick' through the transmission as it engages 'D' from 'P'. It happens very rarely and if I try to replicate it never does it haha!

I wouldn't worry about it at all.

This...

With most autos if the vehicle is on an incline and you either don’t apply the handbrake, or put it in P and take your foot off the foot brake before applying the hand brake, the gearbox takes up the weight of the car and can clunk a little when you select drive
