Does it though? Who cares if it beats an e63s by another tenth or two? It’s a rocket ship already!

Merc AMGs have never been "sexy" to me. Their styling is curvy/ and awkward especially with those terribly ugly wheels. They look like dressed up versions of cars that were never meant to see a track.

BMW is always the most handsome car. Perfect proportions, chiseled muscular look, no awkward angles.

Looks have always been subjective - and I will agree with you here - especially the interior which just did not do it for me after being wowed by the pics on the internets...

Merc fanboys got all excited over the bs Carwow race. Yet every single other race by other outlets has had the Bimmer win. Maybe Watson is just a tool?

Merc interior is looking a tad chintzy.

BMW played it far too safe on the 7-series interior but they got it damn right on this new 5er. M5's cabin looks incredibly modern and objectively of higher quality than the Mercs (which has some cheap plastics).

Do Mercedes still have that weird 4th pedal parking brake you operate with your walking stick?

I guess I beg to differ

It's all a question of taste and ultimately cars for a somewhat different customer.

The E63s is not really meant to be a dual personality car as the M5. The M5 is much softer and quieter in its "civilized" setting and then you can open it up if you like. A very practical car.

The Mercedes is more aggressive and louder and that's in comfort mode.
More single purpose I suppose.

More like a Swiss army knife vs a bowie knife Swiss Army knife is definitely a better tool.

That said, I like our E63s perhaps because it isn't low key. For that reason I am keen on the upcoming M8; the M5 is a bit too subtle for me.

Personally I don't get fanboyism; these are all very cool, incredibly capable cars and they all satisfy for a while until boredom sets in or the next shiny toy arrives...

You summed it up well. Ultimately these cars are emotional buying decisions. Everybody has a different opinion on styling and how the driving characteristics fit their priorities. They are both excellent cars.

So this looks identical to the course at the Porsche Experience Center in LA. I drove the 991 GTS, Turbo and GT3 there. Quite fun! You can make out the Cayenne off-roading practice area in a couple parts but they do a pretty good job of hiding the Porsche stuff.

No, electronic parking brake button. Unlike some manufacturers, the Merc auto parking brake automatically gets out of your way if you shift the car into drive and touch the throttle. Other companies could learn from this instead of leaving you stuck fighting against your parking brake that you forgot to disengage.

I agree with what was said above, the E63S is more single-minded in its approach. It handles remarkably well and always feels and sounds like a sporty car. It doesn't have such a wide spread between its comfort and sporty modes, some people will prefer that and some prefer supreme comfort on normal drives and a big change when they switch into sport.

I don't think E63s is aggressive at all in terms of styling. It looks too cute in the rear and almost identical to a c class in the front. I guess looks really can be subjective. The styling (exterior and interior) is the one main reason I did not consider E63s at all.

Performance wise these two cars are very close. E63s' exhaust note is definitely more aggressive.
