418 Luggage Compartment Package

Hi,

Anyone know what's in the 418 Luggage compartment package? I see it's $450 and not available until 12/18 but what's in it? Is that automatic cover that hides itself included in that or is that standard?

Thanks!

Includes the automatic stowable cargo cover and presumably those rubberized strips that raise and lower depending on whether the car is moving to keep cargo in place.

So, am I reading this correctly, the automatic stowable cargo cover is not a standard option? Has anyone gotten this in their car yet?

Correct. There is a place where you can manually store the cargo cover under the cargo floor, but the automated retraction and storage is not standard.

Also note the automatic luggage cover retraction is not available with 3rd row seats.

All above is correct, it is the power stowing cargo cover and rubber strips that stop stuff from moving around, not available until 1/19 last I saw.

That’s correct. I ordered it but not available until January. I see they are making a cargo liner for the 418 option.

We wanted that option too, but my dealer told us that some of the current rebate incentives may not be available after end of this year ? So decided not to wait.

You guys are so lucky, no rebates in Canada and many dealers didn't want to discount the X5. So no issues for me in waiting for the luggage compartment package.

I found I was constantly removing and installing that cover, so I'm looking forward to a bit of convenience. The rubber / rail thing seems kind of neat as well.

I believe many people would like this option. BMW should have increase the base price and include this as part of the standard equipment.
Well, at least now I have a place to store the cover .

I don't want that option. The motorized cover is just begging to get out of alignment and jam, just one more little gizmo to break.

Agree. The whole setup solves a problem I don’t have. I never use that cover. It came out day 1 in my E70. Not even sure where it is. I’ll try to find it before I bring the truck in to trade when my G05 arrives.

I'm sure with G05 being a first year production will have a few minor things to deal with. Hopefully warranty will address these things.

There's a place to store your retractable cargo cover, underfloor. Rather nice.

Yeah - I saw that! It will save me from having to find the cover when I trade in my G05!

Who knows, maybe I'll actually use it once or twice. Probably not - I actually use my X5 to haul a lot of equipment/gear around and it becomes an obstacle with the seats down - which is often.

It's one of the things I like about this truck - it can haul my 5K pound power boat, lug around sails/sailing gear, fishing gear, get to the mountains to ski and is still fun as hell on back roads and open roads.

Cargo cover? Whaaaaat?

I am considering ordering this option for the X7.Is there any reason in getting this if i am going to have the 3rd row seats stored most of the time?

If the X5 is any indication the option won't be available at launch so if that matters wait

That isn’t an issue for the X7 because deliveries don’t start until March.I have to finalize my options now because they are starting production of the X7 now for delivery in March.I will probably just add this option. My only concern is that it would reduce cargo space.

I highly doubt they're producing any X7's right now. From what I know the earliest one's arrive in Feb to dealers as floor models this means production will likely start mid January

Understood. I'd go for it personally, if I had the option on my @X5 I would've gotten it. So do you also have an X5?

For me the G05 power lower and kick open solves the problem - don't need the auto cover retract. On an F15 with hands full you could get the upper open but if cargo cover was in place you had to put stuff down to either retract the cover or open the lower.
